We have a miele cat and dog. Brilliant. Had a dyson before that and thought it was good until we realised that we could smell dust every time we used it. We were just spreading dust around. Not so with the miele - it traps all of the dust and is a real solid quality product. Bagless technology is just a gimmick.

when i took my dyson in for a repair , the guy had about 20 vacuums lined up that he'd fixed , about 15 were dysons ,

i have a henry that i use for work , so it's picking up all sorts of crud, rubble , fine dust etc and it's about 8 years old , a decent bag /pack of 10 will cost you about £10 ,
if dysons were that great all tradesmen would have one , i've yet to meet one that has one

Could that possibly be because Dyson have about two thirds of the market? Almost every 'dead' Dyson I have seen has suffered motor failure or the thermal cut-out activating due to the filters not being washed regularly as required. If the filters are maintained they will last for years, yet I've heard people say that they 'didn't know where the filter was'...

I have a wonderful Sebo but I also have 3 cats and a Dog, I was getting fed up of having to get the vac out 4 times a day so splurged and bought a Dyson DC59...expensive but it is wonderful! so much easier and quicker to whip round the house now..it saves me so much time and makes life so much easier...worth every penny!

We have 3 cats so the Dyson is great as it picks up all the hairs very efficiently.

I don't know about others but I find it very robust. It does get blocked up a lot (with all the cat hairs) but it is very easy to service yourself as all the bits are removable so you can dismantle the full route of the suction to unblock it. The HEPA filters are all machine/hand washable.

I don't touch the sealed electrical parts but these would be pretty easy to replace due to the logical way they are built.
Personally I wouldn't get anything else if you have pets and are okay with removing a few screws to unblock things. If you have pets and can't do this then you would be buying a new cheaper cleaner every few months so its much cheaper than doing this.
  • Not sure about the Dyson, but your problem is you are using a compact pull-along vacuum and not an upright. Unless you have a loop pile carpet, you should be using an upright with the beater bar on. This will help keep the pile upright and improve the appearance of the carpet.
