I didn't think the SOGA applied to second hand goods0

I'm surprised people are saying that's not a lot of oil. My 14 year old diesel Lupo, yes a diesel (should burn more theoretically) burns less than a pint in about 2000 miles. How much is between the top and bottom of the dipstick? At an oil change, my car is at the top, by the next oil change, it'll be 3/4 of the way down.
My car only holds 4.7 litres of oil. That Audi would be burning far too much oil for my liking there.0 -

I wouldn't say the audi in question was consuming allot of oil.0 -

.25l per 1000 miles is a lot though so its not BS. Also I admit I was thinking more of the oil you have to feed in to the fuel.0 -
What is it with these German cars burning through oil? That surely cant be right.
Since my first car (a 1990 Lancia) I have never had to do anything but small top ups between services, the most recent Fiat I have uses basically nothing between 21k service intervals.0 -
If it has complete Audi service history, you have a good case. Audi are well aware of the problem, they often pass it of as a characteristic of such a "performance" car.
However, if it has been outwith the Audi network, they will shrug and move on.0 -
Are you certain that you have the correct grade of oil in the car? An oil change is relatively cheap, and might be worth trying to see whether it improves matters.
Also, are you certain that you do not have any oil leaks? The oil could be leaking out of the engine rather than being consumed ...Philip0 -

If the car was purchased recently it's probably best to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed rather than play around with different grade oils. The oil loss is substantial - every full tank fill you need to put a coke can of engine oil in - I don't know anyone who needs to do that!0 -
Not that Audi will recommend it, but it might be worth checking out a product like Forte Oil Fortifier. It is designed for engines with excessive wear, low compression due to wear, and those burning oil. It actually says for cars having done more than 150,000 miles but still, could be worth it.0
