Coach transfer for disabled lady - HELP

I'm travelling to Crete in Aug with Thomas Cook. I wanted to take my mobility scooter with me but have been refused by the coach company as they are not insured for electrical items ???. The scooter separates into 4 parts(which fits into the boot of a car). I have made inquiries about hiring one when i get there but as there isnt a shop local, it would cost me over £500 pounds for them to deliver etc.
I have been told that Thomas Cook can arrange a car but that would also cost me approx £200 (price yet to be confirmed).

Has anyone got any advise for me please
Thank you

We had similar with an electric wheelchair but didn't find out till we arrived that the coach was a no-no. Can you look into the price of arranging a car or taxi directly, rather than using Thomas Cook?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you are registered disabled then ask TC what arrangements that they have made to comply with their duty under the Disability Discrimination Act and what (reasonable) adjustments they have provided for at your destination.

I would suggest that not being insured being used as an excuse by THEIR coach transfer is not complying with the Act. The fact that this is in Crete should make no difference as you are buying (I assume?) a package in the UK from a UK based business.

If you are not Registered Disabled then I presume you do not need the scooter except for convenience? Have you looked at the cost of hiring locally? I would expect this is something that is not unusual nowadays. And possibly cheaper than taking your own as if you are not RD then I expect TC will be charging you the excess baggage costs too?
  • Take a look at booking a taxi through https://www.suntransfers.com , or booking a hire car yourself with someone reputable on the island.

Forget organising a taxi or car hire through Thomas Cook, it'll be ridiculously over-priced, and the service will be no better.
  • Take a look at my-shuttle.eu It works quite fine in germany and some other countries.
