Help needed about getting double glazing.

Hi Emma B and other UPVC buyers
This isn't a horror story as such, but I placed an order with Safestyle, paid a deposit, arranged a time etc. 1 week before the windows were due to be fitted they phoned up and said they had made a mistake in their calculation and wanted to up the price. Beware sneaky trick from ALL window fitting companies!
An alternative route would be to find a local joiner who has window fitting experience and find a local supplier to provide windows on a supply only basis. This can often bring the price down significantly as the window manufacturers assume that you are a self employed fitter and don't try to hoodwink you. Look for good brands such as Veka or Rehau.0 -
hi, thanks yes spose most companies will try one trick or another but thanks to this site not many will get past me now!
most reports have been good so we will see. i really dont think 4000 is bad anyway for 6big windows, 2 windows for above doors and two very large doors, all the diamond windows in light oak, not white upvc, which is cheaper.
but we have made our mind up and booked them now, only thing is fitting is 3rd jan!!0 -
Hi Emma, How are you getting on with Safestyle as I might be using them soon, depending on my other quotes.0

I had a quote today from them..
Porch (4 large windows and Porch door)
Front Door and side panel
French Doors with 2 side panels covering an area of 3m wide by 2m high high
Stable Door for the kitchen
Came to around 6k in total, Everite wanted 7k for the Porch only.
Apparently it's going to be on their website in the future for a before and after snap so they knocked a few quid off.0 -

Aren't they all? (sorry but every quote I got a few years ago, were all knocking down the price for using before & after pics one way or another) Totally put me off buying double glazing, so just suffer freezing cold Glasgow most of the year...0 -
got a quote from safestyle. 3 thousand 500 for 8 windows and one door in a honey oak on the outside and white on the inside?
did not bother to get more than one quote as i felt it was good, although we managed to knock him down from 6 k to the above?0
