Nerja

It's about 185km from Nerja to La Linea the crossing point to Gibraltar, it is motorway most of the way but you can be held up at the border so if you decide to do the trip it is a long day.
Mind you if you haven't been it is worth the trip.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -

that does seem a heck of a distance to travel for a day trip, which is a shame as we were both keen on going.
how far are the main resorts the other side of malaga?SPC 0370 -
Torremolinos is the closest resort the other side of Malaga and that is about 75km. away.
Nerja is very much on it's own on the eastern side of Malaga ( apart from a few small resorts) you should have really checked this out before you booked. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
Torremolinos is about 1 and half hours by bus, with a change in Malaga. Malaga itself is quite a nice city. Nice beach front .
I loved the "real Spain" feel of Nerja, all the tapas bars and windy streets.
Sitting @ Balcon de Europa with a Copa de Vino Tinto or 2. Fantastico
However, if its a pint of Carling and a Sunday Roast, Nerja is probably the wrong place.0 -
I have been many times to Nerja over the last 30 years or so and whilst it has changed dramatically I still think it is a little jewel along that coast. Get a bus to Frigiliana into the mountains, and Competa is another nice little village. Grenada is an absolute must be be sure to book a tour with an entrance ticket into the palace, and not just the gardens. Last year we queued from 6am (were staying in Grenada) but even then could only get into the Generalife. I have never found anything of interest in Malaga and Barcelona is definitely not a goer. Gib - well I quite liked it as it was very clean and a to die for fish market. Just watching the world go by on the Balcon is a peaceful way of passing the time and I never felt bored there, although generally hired a car or drove down. While I agree with the recommendations that Living Proof has made I can't agree that there is nothing of interest in Malaga, there's plenty there to keep you occupied for at least one day out.0

Don't bother with over-priced 'excursions' - the local public bus service to Malaga is good, frequent, and spends a couple of hours meandering along through towns along the coast. And I agree agrinnal's view that by the time you've wandered round the shops and bars, hacked up the steep path to the castle, and chilled out in the shady botanic gardens of Malaga old town, you'll think the trip well worthwhile.
The beach restaurant of the hotel 'Balcon de Europa' looks expensive, but isn't; is fantastic value and hidden in a little cove right down on their beach- great for lunch; you have to go down through the hotel. The hotel bar on the 'balcon' is good too- cheaper for a glass of wine than many of the bars when we visited in Feb. You'll have a great time0 -
Nerja is nice, especially the Balcon de Europe, or put simply a town square.
I think the reason it is so chilled out, is on three occasions we were offered spliffs whilst out for the evening in the square, why the dodgy characters thought I wanted to buy cannabis when clearly my good old Sanatogen and Philosan does the trick ; )0 -
Only been to Nerja once but we loved it.
Worked in Gibraltar and would say the only reason to go there is to say 'I've been there' or to see the caves which are not easy to get to see.
We are in Barcelona at the moment for the second time in 6 months and it's a great city perhaps the best in Europe???? but we wouldn't travel to see it from Nerja. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
I agree that Gibraltar isn't a great day out, much better to head to Granada for the day.
Nerja was lovely. A real, laid back feel to it and some stunning beaches.0
