Has anyone stayed in a good campsite for families?

Hi all,

I wonder if you can help.

I am planning on going on my first camping trip.

I have never been too keen to camp, but my family are very keen, so I have said I will try for two nights.

Instead of just staying in a field, I am keen to find somewhere nice
Perhaps somewhere that is connected to the campsite such as a beach, country park, castle grounds etc.

Can anyone recommend anywhere?

I would be happy to do Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Dorset or Wiltshire if anyone can recommend somewhere good?

Many thanks

    There are so many!

What sort of camping are you doing? Have you got a big tent? A caravan? Are you looking for somewhere with more permanent accommodation?

A good place to look is pitchup.com or ukcampsites.co.uk, they're a bit like Trip Advisor for campers.

I was looking for somewhere to go 'glamping' the other day and came across this place - Barn Owl Camp, which is near Lechlade in Gloucestershire. I've never stayed there (and it's not cheap!) but it looks lovely :)

Freshwater Beach in Dorset is nice, it's a big site but has a fab pool and spotless facilities. It's right next to the beach, although it is shingle!

Red Shute in the New Forest is also nice.

Eweleze Farm in Weymouth is lovely, but only open in August and gets booked quickly. It has an on site shop, a bakery, a pizza oven and things for the kids to do. It's right on the beach but it's a pebble beach and down some steep steps. There's lots to do in Weymouth. You can also get tents provided and put up for you, which although does cost, might be worth it for a first time camper to save buying a tent that you might not use again.

Cotswold farm park is good, not sure if that's a bit out of your way.

Thanks it will be a multi pod tent, so a living room and two or three room pods off, still looking into that one.

It will be proper basic camping, but will be nice for there to be a toilet and shower block and play area for the children, and ideally if we can be in the grounds or next door to a country park or stately home that allows us access to their facilities after hours, or right on a beach it would be the icing on the top

    Thanks

I haven't camped there yet but I second the Cotswold Farm Park - we are planning on camping there at some point.

    Take earplugs.

One of the main reasons I don't camp any more is because I just can't cope with the way noise travels in the open air. Even if people aren't being noisy deliberately: someone gets up to use the loo and falls over a guy rope on their way back, a child crying, snoring ...

    Hi

    Have a look at https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk

You'll find lots of info about different campsites in England.

If I ever get persuaded to go camping I plan to try Wellington Country park first to see how I get on as it is near us and I can go home and feed the cat and if all else fails at least you get entry into the park included.
