Any advice gratefully received , i have a credit card with a balance of £5200 they have agreed my payment with stepchange and have lowered the intrest slightly but when I have received my statement for every £47.47 I'm paying they are putting intrest of almost £38.00 on. So I am never ever going to be able to pay this debt off. I did write to them but the just said we have lowered it and that's the best we can do ? Should I try again ? :o

Your best bet is to complain to the fos, you can do it online or by telephone.

Financial ombudsman service in case anyone is wondering :D

It might be worth writing to the creditor first to complain, saying you are going to refer it to the FoS if they don't sort it out.

Depending in creditor and/or payment percentage over minimum is going to vary in result, but at least you can say you have tried.

The FOS will tell you that you need to have complained to the creditor first and received their final answer within the set time limits - they have 8 weeks to respond.

If you need a template letter for your complaint, just ask and someone will help you.

Knew it was too good to be true. Any who read my posts know I've gone self managed so I can send token payments to Barclaycard until they default me. Anyway all was looking good, sent tokens and had reply from BC from both cards saying while my token wasn't enough for a formal agreement they would freeze interest and it would eventually pass to recoveries.

Well first statement on Mrs BBs card showing the token payment but also still showing 12.9% interest. So my debt went up this month with them.

No point getting cross, have send a letter (and fax) will carry on with the tokens until I'm finally defaulted. I normally get my statement a day later, so will see if they have done that one as they stated without interest?

    Hi everyone,

Got statement fron Argos today, 29.9% interest re-applied this month...£13! I rang them last week about BNPL stuff and they said any interest (including BNPL) accrued since Jan (and until July whan BNPL would have kicked in)nwould be removed and would show on my next stataement.

I had assumed, from that conversation that interest had been stopped, so don't know whether to wait until next month or kick right off now!!!! Why back to 29.9% I don't know!

No out of the blue and it is the same account that has defaulted late, so hoping they have done something wrong and this debt will be cleared.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Great news about another job, do you do them all in one day?

Thanks sazzie - horrible to lose my friend. He had a huge heart attack after playing squash - very unexpected as he played every week.

Jobs are overlapping Job 1 - main job full time; job 2 - part time 8 months of the year; job 3 - part time 5 months of the year; job 4 - 2 hours a week, 10 months of the year; job 5 - part time 2 months of the year; job 6 - part time 2 months of the year. It does get complicated, especially with tax but I manage to work it out (have thought about using an accountant to help but struggle to justify the expense). :A

Have just called Barclaycard to ask how mush was outstanding on the account so we could write and complain about the default and once we got talking to the guy he said he would have look at it there and then! He put us on hold and then came back and said they would take the default off of all the credit agencies as it should have gone into default back in 2008. We asked for it in writing which he said was no problem and would we also like it emailed over. So a very good result, thank you for all your help. Maybe a silly question but once this default is off will it make a big difference to the credit files as this was the only problem flagging up?

  • After being on my stepchange dmp for a few months now, i feel pretty good. Iv'e only had a few letters from creditors. After very rejected my dmp they still haven't charged interest yet, but i get a default letter every month and a statement. My other 3 debts have stopped interest, no letters, or calls, just easy paying.

My phone contract runs out in a couple of months, I'm with vodafone but i'm not very happy with them. Are any of the other suppliers quite lenient on their credit searches ? What are the chances of aking out a contract with another network ? :)

Not sure to be honest, I am with Vodafone too. Think it may be more positive to stay with who you already have a contract with, than try a new supplier. L
