DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

Well stone the crows, I'm back!
To be honest I have nothing to report from my previous message either, whenever that was! DMP is fine, I'm keeping tabs on it but largely letting it run its' course. About 11 months to go until the big DF day by my calculations!
Natwest and Capital One still send statements for my credit cards. I would complain but each statement is helping me confirm that the amounts are going to them and the total is dropping. I've not heard a peep from anyone else - Wonga wrote off my debt to them, pounds to pocket, lending stream and quickquid have all gone silent, and nothing at all from Westcot who took on the Naetwest debts. Now the only annoying calls I get are from Mr. robotic voice man telling me I can claim PPI.... WRONG! DMP provider checked into that already and told me I didn't have anything I can claim!
I've re-budgeted and can now keep my hand in my pocket when I see something I want, but don't necessarily need. I still treat myself on occasion - next up is a new pair of shoes as mine have finally worn out! - but nowhere near as lavishly as I used to.
I think the big second wind was this past month - I managed to squeeze a 4-day long weekend to Bath, with all the trimmings, and two new tyres for the car out of one month's pay, and still have plenty left spare to go through the rest of the month without a hitch - this time last year there'd have been no way on the lords' green terrain I could have done that!
Just goes to show DF wanabee's, if you want it badly enough, you'll make it happen!
Keep going!0 -

Just got my lightbulb moment today, I've been reading this thread and would like to know if the bc you are referring to is barclaycard, me and oh have 9 cards between us but the biggest one is my barclaycard at£14.000. I hope this isn't going to be the worst one to deal with "if" we end up goin down the dmp route.
It is Barclaycard yes.
Lots of people have problems with BC, as they are very difficult to deal with at times, they don't always default accounts, or stop interest and charges, it seems.
They tend to deal with people on a random basis, some succeed in getting what they want, others don't.
The best advise is to be persistent, or just stop paying, or only make small token payments to grab there attention.

Lovely letter from Hellifax today - personal and not standard computer generated rubbish. Acknowledged our situation and our view of long term financial difficulties and confirmed current account will be formally defaulted. Very nicely explained the process and apologised that we may find some communications formal and harshly worded but unfortunately this is the process they need to take.

Hi,
We have been doing our dmp (self managed) since the middle of last year, in the most part been doing ok, found all of our creditors reasonable to deal with.
However we have been really struggling with our budget, as something always comes up that is unexpected that needs to be paid.
We are consideing making token payments for the foreseeable future, we have defaults I would say on all our debts other than creation and Barclaycard (ar).
Has anybody get any experience of paying pro-rata to then making token payments.
The rationale is that it would take the 'stress' off for a bit, but may allow us to put money to oneside and hopefully be in a position to send F and F letters.
All advice appreciated.0 -

Hi,
BC were no problem at settling up the dmp and stopping interest, but they don't tend to default and then can introduce interest as you go along. Do try and read back at least this thread, it's full of information and answers to questions you didn't know you wanted to ask!

I've sent a message through the online message system pointing out they agreed to freeze fees and charges and please could they reverse these erroneous transactions on my account:p
Edit: I am not updating my signature until I have sorted out this issue because I want to see the number go down to where I expect to
Finally managed to log into our 2 other MBNA accounts (aka VMoney - delayed because they have changed from MBNA and we needed new access codes for the new site). Between all three accounts there is over £1k in interest and charges :(
I've written to all 3 accounts today and will have to wait and see what comes backHoping the Lending Code quotes will help my fight.
If these charges are not removed our DMP balance after Month1 will be higher than when we started - somewhat depressing but I will fight this and see if I can get it brought back down.DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -

Hi ICPY
Welcome to the thread, and well done for your LBM and masking a start at dealing with your debts. It can be a really difficult time at the start but you'll see for most people it settles down.
BC, to their credit are alway pleasant when I call them, so don't be afraid of them, still charge me interest mind though :mad:Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Did you actually ask to be defaulted? OH has an OD with them and we both have CC's. So far they have stopped interest, but do say it is only for 6 months. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
