    Hi everyone,

I hope you're all having a nice weekend. I'm after a bit of advice...again! I got a letter from Argos this morning saying my offer of payment is unacceptable. I think thy mean my token payment of £1, because they said they are willing to accept £5 per month!! They won't get paid though my SC plan until April and my payment through SC is going to be £45. It's a very threatening letter basically saying if you don't pay now we will default your account and transfer debt to a DCA etc.

So my questing is this: do I contact them and explain to them that I am with SC and will be paying £1 until April (obviously not going to pay £5) in the hope of pacifying them, or do I ignore the letter, continue to pay £1 and hope that they default my account in the meantime?

I generally like to communicate with people rather than ignore letters etc. but don't know what to do in my best interest and I aslo want to make sure I do things "by the book".

Also, thanks for the clarification on a default notice and the account being defaulted and marked on credit file, that slipped me up! So just an update on Capital One....I got a £12 charge on one of my cards so I rang them yesterday. They were really helpful and reversed the charge and told me that interest and charges have been stopped indefinitely on both accounts and that if I continue to pay £1, both accounts will be defaulted, marked on my credit file and transferred to DCA after my next statement :)

Anybody got much experience of Lloyds bank overdrafts? We have 2, 1 on a joint account and 1 on my account and they will be part of the SC DMP and LLoyds have agreed the offer. We also had a credit card each with Lloyds.
Have had letters saying they are happy to freeze the interest on the CC at the moment and agree to the SC payment but separate letters showing that they are still adding on fees to the OD and no mention of the DMP. I have now written twice to them to explain the DMP etc but they don't acknowledge that and just send letters saying charges added. Is this normal practise? Is this because one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing and they do not co-ordinate? Not sure whether to bother writing to them again or not

Sadly yes, I have lots of experience of Lloyds overdrafts and they are not easy to deal with because their departments just don't communicate with each other!

I found the best way to deal with them was via their online banking complaints but that depends if you still have online access to your accounts. They never responded to letters but always responded to online complaints ... and I submitted plenty ;)

    Hi Ali,

I had exactly the same letter from Argos back in Dec following my £1 monthly token payments. I gave them a call and explained that I was entering a DMP with Stepchange and because I knew the amounts tor each creditor I also confirmed the amount they would be getting (which is a shade over a fiver). They couldn't set up the plan there and then as I wasn't starting until Feb but did put the account on hold.

I called them again in mid Jan where they set-up the repayment plan etc with me on the phone, and reduced interest to 9.9%

    Hi Ali

I've not heard from Capital One yet. Did you get asked to provide them with any extra details like pay slips? It's just that when I receive the initial reply from each creditor they always seem to be more awkward than the last creditor! As I mentioned two of my creditors have asked for extra info so goodness knows what Cap One will say!

    Regards
    James

Yes, I think we still have online access, or at least we did last week. I will give it a try tomorrow.
    Thanks

  • Hi All

What are my options if there's one creditor I despise so much that I'd almost prefer to go bankrupt than pay them in full? (It's none of the creditors I've mentioned by name in this thread). I could probably bear to pay them about 50%.

I think personally if you borrowed the money then you pay it back, albeit without the massive interest charged.. What have they done to you that has made you feel like this??

You're right of course, and I will do eventually. I just can't stand their ridiculous contemptuous attitude whenever I speak to them. It started when I refused an interest rate rise and they immediately froze my account and blocked my online access. They and I should both probably grow up :)

Made me smile :D, I had to think about it DOH :o

Just been spreadsheeting and discovered I am at 60% (well 60.6%) or original debt which is 40% paid :j - and that means 50% is in sight this year...can't believe it really

    Signature change coming up :)

James I think it shows why its important for creditors to keep a good relationship, its makes us more willing to want to pay, otherwise the temptation is to think 'up yours:mad:'. Maybe when you are feeling more chilled, try again with a different call centre person?
