  • Hi everyone,

I have 2 current accounts; 1 with Santander which is OD and the other is with Lloyds Bank (in credit - just!). I don't use the Lloyds one so I'm in the process of transferring everything across to it, i.e. payments in, direct debits, etc.

Firstly, I have 2 credit cards with Halifax, which I know is part of Lloyds Banking Group. Will this be a problem when I write to them offering token payments for the time being?

Secondly, should I send the budget that SC did with me along with my token payment letter?

Last one! How should I make said token payments? From my new bank account presumably, but online or by cheque or what?

    Thanks! Finally getting myself sorted!!

I think my debts went up about 1% during set up so that's about £600.... But they do start tumbling the right way so stay positive.

Yeah, worked out that ours have already gone up by 0.99% and expect them to go up a bit more before it starts.
I am positive, as I know in just over 7 years (or less), it will all be paid....and I am sure we will have had our big lottery win before then....LOL

    Hi,

No don't send the budget with your token payment, there is a letter floating around on this thread you can use for each creditor. I just sent a cheque for a £1 from my new bank account during set up.

I can't answer the Lloyds/Halifax question but if they are linked then you know its best not to use them as they may have the right of offset.

hello - sorry to hear people are experiencing the down bit of the dmp rollercoaster! keep on at it though and the up will come your way again soon.

The first bit is particularly high and low I think as you have the gloom of the worst bit, realisation of how much debt you have, panicking thinking the walls are closing in and then... picking up the phone, asking for help, followed by the 'I did it' feeling when you have asked for and received help - then there is a down bit where you realise that your debt is still there and not going to be resolved immediately - I felt really impatient and panicky during this point - then you start getting standard letters that make no sense from creditors and it feels like the roof is coming in - then bit by bit, you start climbing again - honestly you really do - it's a bumpy road it really is but it is one worth travelling. Give it a couple of months for things to settle and you'll be sleeping better and breathing more easily .... things will still trip you up every now and then because that's how life is but you'll be watching your debts going down and that's an amazing feeling.

I haven't replied to anyone in particular on here because others have answered things much better than I would have and frankly I struggle to keep up with the posts as i'm only on the internet every few days... but you're all doing great! Be proud of yourselves :)

  • Hi,
just popped in.all is well, owe under14 grand.....was 21 so going down:T. Was shocked yeaterday.cap1 sent me an invitation for a credit card for those wantin to inprove bad credit rating:eek:.I was very angry as I still owe them about 6grand on 2 accounts so just shows you how much of a responsible lender they are and how much they check their records.must admit I also felt like a"normal" person who gets credit invitations instead of debt letters:rotfl:
I wont be debtfree til 2029 aprox but just shows how quick the debt comes down.not quick enough, I know.
will have to chane my sig now as I am proud owner of a newfoundland !!!!! apparantly crossed with a pyrennean mountain breed.av had her for 3 years.she was 12 weeks when we got her from rescue.only weighs about 13 stone:eek:.she has a wonderful laid back nature and loves the bones of dh although shes suppose tombe mine.did want another springer but glad she is a large breed with thick hair cos there are loads of those staffie/pitbull crosses round me.one of them tried to bite her round neck but she didnt feel anything.
she looked over at it when ds pulled it off her,(while I was screaming like a mad woman:eek:)and she was like,....what do you think u are up to??.I was :mad::mad.when I finally located the stupid excuse for an owner he was laughing about it...which really helped as u can imagine.apparently it was fine with ppl and kids:eek: but wanted to kill every dog it saw.i toid them that it was psycotic and should have a permanent muzzle on and they were lucky mine was so thick skinned cos if anything had happened to her the vet bill would have been the least of their worries.it is true that its not the dog, its the owner.if mine had been a springer that dog would have killed it so its a blessing:A.......she eats enough for a shetland and nothing gets pass her to the bin:rotfl:
please excuse the writing as I use a tablet and the keyboard gets in the way, iykwim.
sorry for the life story.i get carried away.just keep persevering and it does get better.
    all the best.
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

    LOVE ME, LOVE MY NEWFOUNDLAND.:A
  • Hi ILoveGreatDanes,

Thanks for your post, I have three King Charles Cavalier Spaniels so one of them would have been a goner for sure if they had been attacked. Some dog owners are so downright selfish / wreckless :(

I have just googled Newfoundland dogs to see what they look like and they are MASSIVE!!! They look very friendly and happy dogs though, so I can see why you chose one, although I bet her food budget is bigger than yours :D

Oh and good effort not applying for a new Cap1 Card lol! :p

  • Hi all

I feel a lot better today :) and I'm loving the stories about dogs!

Anyway, time for another random question: if a creditor refuses to stop interest and charges, is there any reason for us not to simply drop our monthly payment to that creditor to a nominal £1?

Presumably the interest and charges would be much the same anyway? Why would we bother paying them any extra if they are going to behave like that and the consequences for us (default etc) will be the same? Surely our 'offer' is a deal, i.e. that the creditor will do us a favour (stopping charges) in return for us doing them a favour (paying more than a pound)? It's not a one-way relationship.

    Regards
    James

For those of us who own houses it is slightly different as we would like to avoid co's or ccj's.

    Hey James,

Glad you are feeling a bit lighter about things...

Re: dropping payments to £1 for non co-operative creditors I definitely remember reading about a few people doing exactly that.

I've not been in that position myself but I definitely get what you're thinking... not sure i'd recommend it though...

LOL to your second post... maybe you could set-up a premium rate number for them to ring whenever they need your assistance, or if they want to discuss your I&E in more detail? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
