DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

  • Morning all!

Sorry, I've been a bit quiet again of late... I have made the occasional post (mostly to my diary) but I've been getting a bit bogged down and disheartened by my loss of wages (still on long term sick) and all the other stuff that comes with it...

But! I have had a catch up and thought I should say hi to all my amigos old and new :)

Kate, I've devised a new plan re. students... I now dry my bananas and shape them into arrows and fire the from a bow :) I'm evolving (nothing to do with watching Arrow... honest ;)) since it hurts more LOL

    So many new names on here lately! All good stuff but I have to echo Puzzcats comment;

    DMP'ERS.....
    CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS EVERY MONTH
IF YOU DON'T GET STATEMENTS RING FOR BALANCES
CHECK FOR FREE ON NODDLE (slightly behind but you can work it out...)

Great advice from a DMPer with a LOT of experience :) remember, these are still your debts and if you don't want nasty surprises then stay on top of them. I'm actually an advocate of calling your creditors and speaking to them to get balances if you're not getting statements as it "keeps it real". Oh, and if a creditor hasn't frozen/reduced your interest then they may "not have received" notification from your DMP provider *cough*Barclaycard*cough* and a quick call can save you a lot of money ;)
I just need to run in, jump up and down and shout at the top of my voice ......

OUR DEBT IS UNDER £10K, WE ARE IN 4 FIGURES!

Thank you Student Loan Company, you really have made my (and of course my daughter's) day :T

Wahhhhhh!!! Kick a$$ and taking names ;) well done you :D

Good news from me too, while I'm making drastically reduced payments to my DMP I received a call (and corresponding letter) from the FOS re. a complaint I made to them regarding the Money Shop... When I complained directly I was offered a small reduction, the FOS contacted them and they agreed to write the whole thing off as a 'gesture of goodwill'!!! It's not my biggest debt but to be fair, most of my debts I've not made a complaint against as they're my own fault but it does mean another £305 has gone!!! So chuffed right now ;)

Laters amigos, keep up the good fight!

Have finished my DMP, just at the right time of my life as I was 60 in June. Still working, receiving a works pension, that also had a lump sum attached and have not touched the monthly DMP money or the monthly pension since July when my DMP finished. Thus a nice little nest egg is building, but if I ask at a bank or building society about opening a better bank account to gain interest on this money, what is the outcome likely to be? My Experian report was in the 90s but they did not have mention of Barclaycard, so what else won't be there on others when a bank do a check. I did tell Experian that was a reason I did not extend the free trial with them. Thanks for any help.

Glad it's sorted though and you are getting on well. Is interest frozen automatically on a DAS?

    Hiya,

Yes, all interest and charges are frozen when they agree to the das. They don't get a choice about it

    Hi GibbsRule,

I don't have an answer for you, but if its a savings account you are after I can't imagine many banks saying no thanks...

Lovely to hear you have finished your dmp.... hope for us all.. :T
