Well done cragger89, sounds like your on the right path and will be driving those pesky debts down in the new year.

I think depression and anxiety can go hand in hand with debt, certainly I've suffered for years but now I'm on a dmp the grey cloud is around less often.

Good Luck with your jouney, do hang around and join in we like company..!

Anything stress related brings back the dark clouds. My depression and anxiety stems from members of my family portraying a situation of dreadful consequences should anything not go to plan, twinned with losing my Gran to cancer a few years ago - but that is moving far, far away from the main subject of conversation here!!

Thanks for the positive comments, getting out of debt can only be considered as a positive thing - still requires some concentration at times, but being debt free is a healthy goal.
  • All sorted, and what a turn up for the books. Just happened to be at my sister's house when the phone rang, and lo and behold it was Mr Lender. I spoke to a girl who was actually really lovely and helpful. She has noted on the file that communication should only be in writing, that NO telephone calls will be made and she also said that once StepChange have been in touch interest and charges on the account should be suspended. Sounds good. If they stick to it.

That's good news FMS. I hope your stress levels are coming down a bit now;)

  • Love reading all these posts, so good to know I'm not alone. I sent off my details on DMP 1 week ago to SC, & just waiting in them to collect my first payment at the end of the month. I've missed my normal monthly payment to Nationwide & they have started phoning & leaving me messages. I'm assuming they haven't heard from SC yet about the DMP, think I'll give it another week or two then ring them back. I'm a bit unclear as to whether SC contacts all the creditors or if I'm supposed to do that, does anyone know??

    Hi,
Stepchange take payment on the 1st and 10th of the month and pay creditors on the 25th. Are you not doing token payments for a few months to build up an emergency fund? There are template letters for you to send to your creditors offering a token payment £1 each is enough to show you are committed to paying them back. Sc will write to them with offers but this isn't a speedy process.
I would delay your start up with sc and get letter writing. We can find the template for you if you need it, but you will need to speak to sc and you best let nationwide know your setting up a dmp. You have your safe bank account set up and ready?

Yes a real pain considering that OH's overtime isn't coming through either. We have agreed with all the relatives of a maximum spend of £10 a present, we don't have many to buy for so that makes things a bit easier, and I have a bit of leeway now we are self managed on our DMP. Plus I have managed to put a bit extra by in the emergency fund, so things should be manageable I think.

In the meantime I have invested in some of this:D

I had been up to date with payments until now (except NW), but have had to go into DMP due to fact my pay stops next month (I am ill & at the end of my sick pay). So I haven't been doing token payments, but I have cancelled all the direct debits for loans, CC's so no payments will go out from now on. I thought SC contacted all creditors straight away? so if they don't I need to do that now then?

    Hi

When I got my DMP agreement through Stepchange there was a template letter attached to that email document which I had to send to each creditor telling them I was entering a DMP and letting them know that SC would be in touch. Have you got that?

If your starting your dmp straight away then probably not. Sc do provide a letter template to send to creditors to advise of dmp and any that call you can give your reference number to.
