Life's been getting in the way a bit recently so haven't done much posting but still have a catch up read whenever I can.
Anyway just wanted to share a milestone which I am very excited about, our debt went under £11,000 today :j
Can't wait to get it into 4 figures which is my aim by the end of the year but job situation is very messy at the moment so no promises but we will do our best.

Fantastic news TTFTM! I am so pleased for you. It's great to hear when one of us reaches a significant milestone;)

Brilliant news TTFTM. Your DFD can't be far away now!:j:jDMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421
Debt free date 25/11/2015 - Made It!0 -
My DFD should be March 2015 Sazzie (my February wages), the payments make such a difference to the balance when the outstanding debt is smaller.
No tips, I'm really bad at this but do what I didn't do! Be realistic with your budget (I wasn't and as a consequence the past 2 years have been pretty miserable as I haven't really allowed myself enough).
Its almost done now. I'm looking forward to being able to try internet dating, I'm a bit sick of being single but don't have enough money to go out on a date at the moment!
Yeah but being tough on yourself for 2 years has paid off in the end... :j
I normally ask, what will you do now but I see you have plans...:D
Really pleased for you and anyone heading the right way towards a DFD. This Christmas is my second DMP Christmas, and although I'm not looking forward to it (I don't really) I'm not panicing as much over money as the last one, so there is an improvement. I'm hoping I'll make better present choices than last year as some of my poundland purchases looked less impressive than I'd hoped.
Ah well, off to zzzDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
Estimated DFD August 2018 - 2031 - now 2027 :T

It wouldn't be far off if I wasn't facing redundancy again. It just feels like deja vu, this time last year all over again
Had serious car problems recently too and our daughter has not received any student finance for this term so debt busting has taken a big dive
Anyway while I am still in work am hitting the debt with all we can and it's Mr TTFTM's pay day today, so have just got down to £10,500 and 87.25% paid off :j
There's always something to smile about and I will find it!

well done ttfm - that's brilliant!!! I am just into the 11000s this month. I think my head will spin off when I get under 10k! I haven't had this little (it's not little but you know what I mean) debt for years and years... Was hoping to be in the 10s by Christmas but not going to make it - but am still pleased with progress especially as have been self managed for 6 months now and the roof hasn't fallen in or anything. Will be great to get to the 10s in January and start the year feeling pleased about it!
Well done everyone and welcome new people. I haven't posted much as haven't had much to say but am reading still and wishing you all well.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500

It gives me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel when I read about people doing so well in reducing their debt, fantastic achievment by all! I sent off my first official "token payment" letters yesterday & waiting on the first SC payment to go out, so I don't know what will happen but at least I feel more positive than sitting worrying about it which is what I have been doing for the past number of years.
Oh and I have also made myself an unofficial sealed pot which already has approx. £30 in it! I will someday have a holiday (might take years mind you)0 -
Lighthelamp - you are doing great and it just gets better. I hadn't had a full nights sleep for years, for some reason during daylight hours I could quite happily stick my head in the sand but during the night my debts would just shake me awake! But it does get better as you said you are already feeling more positive. Well done on getting this far!
On another note.... I would like to see what you all think about boiler cover insurance policies. I do not have much of a financial safety cushion and my boiler is a few years old. I am wondering whether it is worth taking out a policy that would cover it just until my debts are paid off so that if something does happen I don't screw up my debt recovery. Do any of you have these policies? I had a letter today from corgi saying their policy is £12.99 a month or £16 including an annual service and feel quite tempted for peace of mind.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500
