Hi all,
I am in my first month of a DMP with stepchange (thank you for all the great info on here) and think I may have screwed something up!
I have been a bit lazy about opening a new bank account so am still using my old current account which is with first direct. This has a £500 overdraft (always fully used every month). My salary gets paid into this account and several DDs come out. This account is on my DMP.
The cash machine swallowed my card yesterday and when I went online, I was unable to transfer any money from the account (only had about a tenner of the overdraft left) so I guess they have frozen the account with a balance of -£490 for whats left of the overdraft.
I have now opened a basic account so can get everything moved over, but im worried that its too late to change my bank details at work so when my salary gets paid in, £490 will be swallowed up by the overdraft.
Do you think first direct will be likely to help me or will it be tough luck?
Any advice appreciated! Thanks0 -
I opened a new bank account online with Nationwide and as far as I remember it was very quick. Do you know when the latest date is you can change your details with your payroll department? if you're past this i'd contact them asap. I have no experience of how helpful a bank would be in those circumstances but there was a post recently on the forums where an overdraft facility had been suddenly removed and they managed to get their salary back as they had a newborn and no other money.
But i'd definitely see what payroll can do to help.
Great news on the job Zenshi!SPC8 #444 Target £2000 -
Grrrrrrrr!!! I HATE Traffic Wardens!!!!
Parked in place where I have been parking for years and today I get a parking ticket!
I'm so mad - £35 of my hard earned cash just gone
I am going to go back and check the signage - as far as I am aware no new signs have appeared saying you can't park there anymore. Bet there is a new miniscule sign I have missed!!
£35 is a lot of money to me - especially at this time of year. Going to have to go back and rebudget now until payday in 2 weeks
Hope everyone is having a better start to the weekend than me!!
BDFSH (but NOT helped by unfriendly traffic wardens!) x0 -
I'm a bit of a lurker here although I have asked for and received some great advice in the past.
We had an incredibly stressful time intially as I'm sure you can all relate to! We are now three months into a very long DMP but the stress has gone and I am prepared to spend the next how ever many years paying it off if that's what it takes.
I just wanted to say thank you really!Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T0 -

Oops, of course as the account is up to max overdraft they may have already decided to withdraw additional funds, but if the account is on the DMP most likely they have frozen it 'to prevent you from getting into further difficulty' will be the line they probably use. I'd call them, at least you'll know.
Obviously any DD not already paid will bounce too. I'd start switching them to the new account, start with priority debts like mortgage rent and council tax, move on to utilities and don't move your DMP debts, just cancel them. They won't get paid until you get money into the new account.
If you can't get anywhere with payroll or first direct then consider asking SC for advice on reducing payment to them., or another plan that someone else can think of.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Apologies in advance, but I think I'm going to have a bit of a rant.
As you lovely, supportive people know I have been sorting out my sister's DMP whilst she is dealing with some pretty debilitating emotional issues. Everything was on track and we were making some headway and then an email arrived today from Mr Lender. I had contacted all of the creditors last week to explain about the DMP and to ask about their protocols regarding me speaking with them on behalf of my sister. I didn't ask for specifics regarding her account, just said that due to some issues she was not in a position to speak for herself so what could we do so that I could. They sent me an email back saying that due to Data Protection they couldn't discuss her account with me and she had to call them.
That's not what I asked for!!! I didn't want specifics I just wanted to ask if there was a form I had to fill in. And they had the cheek to quote Data Protection at me when according to a lot I have read about them they have form for calling a debtor's employment and detailing their business to whomever answers the phone. Sorry, I know this isn't helpful but I am just so mad.
Should I try again or just wait until StepChange have been in contact with them? StepChange does have authority to speak with me so maybe I should just go through them? I'm very confused now and all the more concerned that they might call my sister at work.0
