    Hi all,

Just a quick update/question; I've rung step change and have set up the DMP with them hopefully starting 1st Dec. I just have to send their documents back now with all the things that they need and all should be good to go on this side of things.

Do I now send off my token payments? I've only written up one for Barclay card and it seems a lot of work. This maybe due to the lack of seep :) Should I also ring them as well just to tell them and give them a heads up?

I cant remember who was asking the weight of my baby but he was 9lb 1oz.

    Thanks

Hi, Are you using the template on page 95, post 1883? I sent this letter to all 9 creditors with my initial token payment and then adapted it slightly and sent it twice more to cover all the 30 day periods until set up. Copy and paste, didn't take long!
    Congratulations on your little one.

  • I just did the first questionnaire thing on Stepchange (I didn't know about them before today and tbh my debt is worrying me sick). What happens if my creditors don't agree to a dmp?

They will agree to it, even reluctantly !.

Thats because you are offering to repay in full what you owe, over a longer timescale than what they want BUT if done via a DMP , they will get paid every month without having to ask you for the money.

These does virtually all Financial Institutions realise that people can have money problems and this is the best way of making sure they get paid.

One tip I would give you is to try to get them to default you as quickly as possible - because usually once defaulted they stop charging interest.

Well done on realising that something needs to be done and I wish you well o your journey to being DF.

(Said as someone who has been & done it already !).

Interesting I just read on CAB that they can't take from a joint to a single without permission of both parties. Think I will speak to them.

I am feeling worse than ever about all of this today even though I should be feeling better I am sorting it. My Husband still doe snot know about any of it. I feel like the most evil terrrible person in the whole world. I know that may sound ridiculous but feel so sick

Hi Lastday, I truly don't know if they can, but is OH not going to notice if your dmp payments start coming out of the account. My long term Ex used to claim not to be interested but used to sneakily look at some things.

You may have very good reasons not to tell him, and there are a few folk on the thread who haven't shared, but if you can, please tell someone you trust, it'll help you work through things & if not - we're here and we know you're not evil.

You are doing your best, circumstances have gotten you to here but you are going to fix things, this makes you a strong, reliable and worthy individual (granted you possibly don't feel like that right now, but you will if you stay with us here:T).

    Hi PinkG

Welcome to the thread, well done for doing the SC debt remedy, its often a shock when we realise where our finances really are.

I'd suggest a cuppa and if you can bear to, read through the last 100 pages or so of the thread, its full of advice, links and suggestions, then come back with more questions. Keep in your mind, they can't take what you don't have and priority bills come first.

Its normal to feel sick at this stage, you are not alone and things will get better if you can arrive at a manageable DMP.

Night shift so better head off ....

They will accept. They don't have much choice really. You can't pay what you don't have.

  • Thank you all, made me cry.

My payments to stepchange are coming out of my other own personal account.

The joint account is just for my sons DLA money.

So I should really get my name removed from the account then anyway? Don't we need both of us to go in and do that?

I am going to tell him, just wanted everything in place first so I can show him I am doing everything I can to get it sorted.

I'm going to go into the bank today then. I feel an absolute mess and pathetic. I have told some friends already. But feel so ashamed
  • and just to check - if we have a joint account, even though that account is not in any arrears, will my credit rating then affect my Husbands? Everything else is in my name, all debts.
