  • Well, I didn't get the job. BUT I got some fantastic feedback and I've already applied for another one - third time lucky ;)

Actually I've gained quite a lot from the process and it's massively boosted my confidence and motivation to get qualified :)

Maybe not the outcome I hoped for but I'm in no doubt it's the outcome that life/fate had planned all along and I'm no worse off than I was a month ago - if anything I'm better off, I've cleared more debt, I'm waiting on F&F responses and I'm happy.

So this isn't a step back, it's a change of direction.

I plucked up courage and spoke to Stepchange and I will pay £70(£10 token payments in Novemeber) and start paying £180 a month from December. Feel bad, and have probably peed off my creditors anyway so better to do this than to get myself in a pickle before this has even started.

Spent years doing that so this is my new start :) From next spring I can start to up the payments as got an £80 loan for my car to family ending in May and in September my eldest goes to secondary school so childcare fees save £75 a month.

This is hard but I can do it :) x

Can I give you a bit of advice? There is no need to make any more than £1 token payments, you won't gain extra goodwill from your creditors by paying the extra. I would also suggest telling SC that you intend to make token payments in December.
Save all the extra funds to ensure less stress over the crimbo period.

I made 3 months of token payments and it did not make any difference to my creditors. You will need a little cushion behind you.

I second that! I made one month of £10 tokens. Really wish id have made three months at £1. Encourages sooner defaults, builds up emergency fund and allows you to practice the budget

And MB I knew we could rely on you for a bit of personal finance delving, but your openness and honesty makes people want to open up, have you considered this in alternative career ideas?

Good idea, beats waving bananas, throwing satsumas at students and eating haribo:D

Sorry about the job Kate. The interview experience can be very useful though for the next time, so yes indeed - third time lucky!

I also did £1 token payments at the beginning, just tell SC what you want to do, these are your debts and an emergency fund is a must. X

    £1 is perfect.

Myself I would send the £1.00's by setting up a bill payment on internet banking - the bank details are bound to be on the statements - normally on the back. You can also send cheques in the post or pay in over the counter of your own bank using the giro credit slips. Please don't think about postal orders - they're expensive and inconvenient for the creditors increase the likelihood of something going wrong!

    Awright Kid?? :D

    Hi Lewpy

Well done for calling them, we understand this isn't easy, many, many of the folk on here have felt the same - we might sound tough & super-confident now (well some might!) but lots of us were shakey, shaken and defeated when we started out.

I'd agree with great advice from the others about £1 tokens, it wont make a jot of difference and is more likely to make creditors pay ball. I didn't make any token payments as i was in such a state I couldn't figure out how to, and nothing bad happened, no one knocked on the door and took my things away. I did get some pretty persistant calls but i just ignored them or called when I felt strong- which wasn't often. It was in the days before I found this thread and all the support you can get here. ;)

Think about making a couple of months of tokens, if you can get that little emergency fund behind you it will save loads of stress in the future for when xxxx breaks (my kettle exploded this week - I went to the shops and paid cash - ok its not expensive but on a string-tight budget you don't have that flexibility. You've got little uns and there are bound to be expenses that crop up. Justify it in your mind that you have probably been paying far more than you could afford for too long, so now you are restoring balance. You are not planning to shirk, you want to pay, its just gonna take longer than you'd hoped. And thats the line i use with creditors now. :D

Any DMPers with ideas on how to survive christmas ?- I don't have any children but I warned the step-children early so that the step-grandkids wouldn't expect too much. Adults got poundshop pressies and I worked through so only needed to buy extra chocolates to take to the work buffet. It did make me lose of a bit of the fund I'd built up, but I've saved a bit for this year. (still a worry though - its an expensive time).

Maybe you have stuff to sell, services to offer, ironing, child sitting, cake baking - there are alot of forum threads on DFW to give ideas.

GUO - sorry but nothing beats eating haribo :rotfl:
Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
