DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

Great work everyone! DMP obviously stands for Delightful Magnificent People on this thread!
The third leg of the Vet School Tour of England commences tomorrow with the 6.11am train to Liverpool (after a midnight dash to collect DS1 who is in France as we speak). All of the above has been paid in advance so despite being an emotional wreck because my "babies" (who are both over 6ft now) are growing up and leaving me I'm quite excited. I keep telling myself them doing this is proof that I did the parent thing right but it's still hard.
Good and weird news from me. HSBC overdraft has slipped into the 1800s and now the weird bit. The loan with them is showing as settled in August on my Noddle report. The actual account log in is showing a balance of £ 1584. Very odd. Now wondering if they're planning to offset the PPI. But the settled figure doesn't show the last two payments and if that is the case I'm due 1100 "change". Or maybe it's been sold on? The other two accounts are still showing as active. Time will tell, eventually they'll tell me what's going on I suppose but they seem to be a law unto themselves! Either way I've decided it's an omen and a taste of my future, gradually watching each account reach zero and move into the closed accounts list
Or has one of you sneakily paid off one of my debts?

First time poster - been lurking for a while now (and can't believe how supportive this thread is).
O.k, so today I received a text from Stepchange that my DMP is set up, and the first payment will be taken at the beginning of November.
I have debts of over £35,000.00 and tried to make all monthly payments in full (circa £800.00 p/m) - unfortunately it just got to a point where I couldn't sustain this.
So now, I'm looking at £350.00 p/m, but in reality I'm going to try and make extra payments where possible.
I'm very aprehesious about the DMP - especially the first few months. What is it like? I have worries out bailiffs - to date I've not missed one payment, but I know this month will be the first where I do, so i guess it is a step into the unknown.
if anyone could shed any light on the first few months, or share any tips it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!LBM: September 2014

Hi chutyeh, worry you not my friend. If your debts are with high street banks and credit cards you are unlikely to get any hassle, all mine have been fine and are easy to speak to.
I think some catalogue companies and pay day loan companies can be a bit of a pain, but you are not going to get Bailiff problems when dealing with Stepchange. Baliffs come when you do nothing, you are doing something and a court will always acknowledge that.
A couple of months in and you will worry what all the fuss was about.0 -

Thanks for the reply Blistering blue.
My debts are a mixture of high street bank overdrafts, loans and credit cards, along with two small pay day loan companies, peer to peer lending as well as companies like Ratesetter and SpringCoin (technically not pay day, but not sure what to call them).
I've told the two pay day loan companies who were 'reasonable', and made token payments totalling £330.00.
I'm now just going around the other companies and letting them know, while offering token payments.
I do hope it is as fuss free as it seems!LBM: September 2014
