....Well I have been and gone and done it! Now self managing. Step Change were brilliant and wished me good luck and said I was being very sensible. That was worrying seeing as sensible is not me, well not where money is concerned:rotfl:
Well done GUO and I'm sure you'll do marvellously.
I considered going self-managed when Halifax were being difficult but gave it one last go and they've finally defaulted me :j With that said now Barclaycard have reinstated interest, so they are next on my list. With them being the only two accounts (out of 11) that are charging I'm going to see if I can resolve it myself, if not try the FOS and then decide what to do. I may end up self-managed in the coming months so I'll be following your progress.
Anyway - hope it all continues to go smoothlyLBM: March 2013 / DMP Start: 1 July 2013 / 14 Creditors

But I now have 2 accounts - a basic account with debit card and a instant savings account. The intention is to transfer the left over money at the end of each month into savings. They have given me an atm card on the savings but will try to leave that at home. I have sent the letters to the creditors so its all starting. The first full payment was missed yesterday, I sent a token payment as all you have suggested as well as Stepchange. My salary has been paid into the old account as was too late to change it so now I will let HR know the new details for September onwards. I've made a list of direct debits that need to be moved across and am going to work down them as they are paid for the last time out of the account I have the overdraft with. I need to get the paperwork back to Stepchange but didn't want to send it back too soon as I want to be sure all has worked ok with the transfer of salary and direct debits especially for the priority things like mortgage and council tax.
Does anybody know when the paperwork needs to be with Stepchange for it to be started the following month?
Hope everyone is ok and doing well with their efforts to be DF
I transfer the planned leftover money at the beginning of the month, that stops me from dipping into it. Also, I leave all cards at home and have disconnected any debit cards from paypal and amazon...LBM: NOVEMBER 2011 || debt free date:30/06/15 || The Fighting Debt Army: #442 || Frugal Living Challenge 2018 || January 2018 Grocery £1.22/£100 ||0 -
Brave you GUO
... Yes OHs do have a way of not being about to take care of their phone calls, when I nab him mine just acknowledges id then passes it straight back to me lol
I know I havn't actually yet started SC payments but from reading threads think that's the way I would like to go in a year or two, more control will hopefully equal DFD closer
Good luck and best wishes for the next phase, I too will be reading your posts with interest.

Feels like I have completed another step along this path!! All direct debits now transferred over to new current account
Cancelling direct debits as each next loan payment gets taken out in preparation for DMP start date on 1st Oct.
Tax credits etc transferred over to new bank account too.
Just a quick question - our son has autism and we receive DLA for him. I have included this in the SC budget sheet as a payment into my account (which it is) however just wondered if this should be included as the money is actually for my son to help with any specialist equpment or provision he needs rather than being used for utility bills/food shops etc?
Counting down until 1st October!!!0 -

Well done BDFSH. I don't think you should include your son's DLA. It's not money to pay off your debts, it's money for his welfare, above and beyond the usual provisions for a child of food, heat and light etc. Have a word with SC about it.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement for going it alone. Still haven't managed to get OH to do his phoning yet, but there's always tomorrow.:cool:DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Thanks GUO - and congratulations on getting to the point of self managing :T
Will speak to SC.
Keep us posted as to how everything goes and good luck0 -
I agree with GUO, definitely would not include your DLA and I'm sure SC will say that too. Good luck with the DMP, sounds like you've got everything in hand and once it all starts you'll never look backLBM: March 2013 / DMP Start: 1 July 2013 / 14 Creditors
