  • Hi all

I haven't posted in a while, but I just wanted to come and say that things are good. I make my final DMP payment to Payplan on September 1st, and after three years of slog, and one very big stiffing from DCM Money Solutions (Who as you probably know went into administration), we have gone from being £22,000 in debt, to clearing in 11 days' time. What a great feeling.

Feeling bit apprehensive, few letters in from creditors, mixed responses, but now bank with biggest debt (CC and overdraft - amost 6k combined) have emailed asking me to phone them immediately. Have not sent letters or token payments yet, first payment to go to SC 1st Sept. Fearful of contacting anyone by phone.
Try not to worry too much, at first the letters are mostly automatically sent out. I have had similar letters and when I called to explain the situation creditors have been pretty pleasant and understanding even Santander who we owe around 20k to! They will just ask what's changed in your financial circumstances and whether you can make a payment. Just explain that you cannot make the payment and that you will be making payments via stepchange from the 1st September, give them your reference number and they will leave you be for a while. I have spoken to some creditors then received letters days later, when I rang again I was told that they're just automated and not to worry as I had already spoken to them on the phone. As katefixingit said to me at the start what can they do, if you can't pay it then that's that and they have to accept it.

Haven't been here for a while but have read through all the pages.

Two bits of good news finally got a default from Hellifax OD and most importantly my tumour turned out to be benign. That's two month of worry over. Feel elated x

I am a bit of shy so I am a bit of a lurker but I wanted to add my congratulations to everyone who has posted, it has been wonderful to see people who have gone or are considering going self managed - an amazing step! :)

I suppose I should give an update about my own circumstances as I last posted on the 29th April here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=65383365&postcount=4827)

I ended up writing to my creditors informing them of my change of circumstances and my mental health conditions. I heard from one out of five creditors but they have all accepted the new payments and have had no negative repurcussions *touch wood*!

If things continue going this way I should be DF by July 2015 :money:

Sending good thoughts to all who accepts

    Lucy x

Good news Lucy and well done for taking action after the April post

Thanks for the sleep thoughts, managed to get some last night so feeling a tad better today.

    Hi Fuzzy

Great news , so pleased for you, must have been a tough couple of months.
Glad you came back was wondering where you where.

    igaveup

From experience the fear of ringing creditors is worse than the actual experience, but it does depend on who you need to ring, in general I'd say CC, banks and DcA are the easiest, PDL and catalogues not so easy.

Remember all you really have to say is SC ref and first payment will be received by the creditors on 25 th Sept, so if you can pluck up the courage to call them, might actually make you feel better (but it took me lots of months so don't worry if you can't do it)

    Have a good day everyone
