02 Poland

My daughter is going to Poland next week and I'd like to get her a PAYG SIM from 02 solely for the trip. Any pitfalls I need to beware of? Did this for other daughter a couple of years back except it was France trip not Poland. Data is main usage.

All tips appreciated.

  • If the phone is unlocked I would look at Vodafone PAYG.

I think their £2/day offer has more data than o2.

Vodafone at £2 for first 25MB, and then £450 for 1GB? No way.

I would recommend a 4G PAYG sim card in Poland. Unlimited internet (£2 for first 1GB, and then unlimited at a reduced speed), calls to UK £0.40 per minute.

Why get a UK SIM card for Poland? You need a Polish SIM card, otherwise you'll have to pay hefty roaming charges compared to the negligible cost of local Polish data.

Just buy a Polish sim on arrival, all the small kiosks sell them, I've bought one at the airport on arrival, only about a fiver with some credit.
  • Ian/NFH/GolfBravo, I agree that a local SIM would be a better solution but there is an assumption about how confident the traveller will be in buying, fitting and configuring a local SIM.

For a single short trip is there a better (UK high street) offer you can think of ?

I wouldn't worry about that. Whenever I buy SIM cards in mobile phone shops in Eastern Europe, they do more than I expect in order to get everything working, configuring APNs and anything else that needs to be done.

Poland's in the EU, so the costs are now pretty reasonable.

Buy Lyca Mobile or Toggle Mobile (affiliated with Lyca) SIM.
They charge same rates in many EU countries (including Poland) and no charge for incoming calls
