A reaction to pressure from the RAC. Still a few more pence to go though - if their figures are anything to go by, diesel should only be around a penny a litre more than petrol at the pumps.

Does MSE get paid by supermarkets to plug these? Prices are always £1.26 to £1.30

Lower end for supermarkets higher end for fuel specialists. Hardly worth losing sleep over. If I have less than half a tank and drive by a station at the lower end of the scale I just fillup to the top.

by there are some proper moaners around today, blaming MSE for promoting a news story or wow its saving cash come on its a story but if you have to moan moan about why its around half a pence more expensive on the market but at the pumps its 4p difference. any reduction has to be welcome as every penny counts

It's a moan because petrol prices fluctuate by a penny here and there every day. It's a non story.

Imagine on the holiday board someone posted a thread every time the weather got warm and therefore no need to abroad for holiday.

Save a little bit here. Save a little bit there. Surely the lowest price in three and a quarter years at one of the cheapest diesel retailers out there has to be seen as news of the good kind? Especially as petrolprices.com consistently reports my local Asda as selling the cheapest diesel in my area. To me the most important aspect of this notification is to save me money by deferring purchase until the price has reduced [Queue debate on causes of recession....]

My local ASDA's are charging 132.7p, so the price cap at 131.7p is only a reduction of 1p/L for me. But, as has been rightly said, every penny counts.

We were planning to use my partner's car, which is very low on fuel, to do the shopping tonight, and fill it up. As a result of this article, we'll now take my car, which has half a tank of fuel, tonight and fill up my partner's car at the lower price over the weekend or early next week.

I would rather diesel prices were forced up. In a short time almost half the cars on the road are now diesel despite it being a major pollutant that has caused an increase in cancers, heart and lung diseases. It particularly affects children.

It is a mystery to me why anybody is allowed to buy a diesel car.
