Flight cancellation when on a package holiday

At least we agree on that.
I am not an expert on Greel meteorology but there again neither are you. If the airline consider the weather conditions are unsuitable for the aircraft that they use and the forecast predicts it going on for some time then the 24 hour delay is understandable.
I think you miss David's irony, !!!!!! ...
The point is surely that if the airline chooses to use a plane to service a route (when they might anticipate there is a reasonable prospect that the weather conditions could preclude the use of that airplane on that route, and that other aircraft would be more appropriate) then this is an operational decision within their control.
I think that there is an argument that they would fail the second limb of the Wallentin test - though I also think that any delay which involves weather affecting a flight directly is going to be hard in practice to bring before a small claims court.0 -
We don't even know whether that airline has non-prop aircraft. If it is a smallish domestic only then it may not have.
TBH. We don't know the airline involved.
All contingencies are not coverable even though people on these boards think they should be regardless of cost, manpower etc.
Imagine the scenario.
Prop aircraft can not take off from Rhodes. Therefore they need a jet aircraft. None available on Rhodes so it needs to be flown in from wherever there is a spare aircraft AND spare crew qualified to fly it. Crew put on standby whilst aircraft prepped. Aircrew time already ticking away. Aircraft brought to Rhodes. Oh !!!!!!, that crew can not fly it back after loading because they have exceeded their hours so now need x hours break. The prop crew can't take it because they are not licensed on type.
Oh look 24 hours delay regardless. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
