BT trying to bill us for their inadequacy - Help

Can anyone help.
We had BT Broadband fitted on 20th May. I was complaining by 22nd May and have been ever since.
The BT engineer fitted the master socket next to our smart tv as we wanted to use it to stream internet through. This was his recommendation.
The problem is, when we turn on the tv (plugged in or not) the broadband speed drops to 0.20 or lower.

After over 14 calls to BT we have self diagnosed the problem is that the tv interfers with the broadband.
Now, all we wanted was the BT engineer to come back and move the box somewhere else to reduce interference, they want to charge us £130 to do this, even though they recommended they put it here.

I REFUSE to pay BT anymore money money. To cancel the service they want to charge us over £300.

Surely they cant get away with this!

My husband and I have been on the phone since 5pm this evening. It is now 9pm. We are getting passed from England to India, no one is taking responsibility or making a decision.

Afraid they can. You paid for a line installation and that's what you got. BB if it is affected by your TV because it isn't shielded well, has nothing to do with BT, and they could gave not foreseen that you would be affected in this way. Since it is your cheap router that causes the problem - move IT further away.

As Buzby says, move the modem/router further away from the TV

Did the BT engineer specifically recommend locating it where he did? Did you try it out before he left? You need to be very clear about this being the case, assuming it is, when making your complaint. If you said you wanted it near your tv or something similar and he said OK, that would be different.
