I had my appointment yesterday and they seemed confused about the deal had to explain about it even though they had the promotional leaflets instore however I did find them helpful and love the contacts got my code no probs either seems to be hit and miss. Most D&A stores are franchaises so it will be the case I think. I have a good friend who owns a D&A and they didn't even know the offer existed oh well i'll see if kit turns up.

I had my appointment today and when I went in the first thing I made sure with them was that I'll get the Free eye test, free contact assessment and then a code to claim free beauty kit. The assistant had to ask someone else and asked if I had vouchers, so I explained to them that I got it from the reinventyourselfnow website which doesn't give you vouchers, as well as someone from the website emailed me that I don't need them too and the lady who rang me from their branch few days ago (Helen) told me that I could just tell them it was an Acuve promotion. He then showed me the Reinventyourselfnow leaflet and I had my eye test.

When it came to the contact assessment the eye examiner wouldn't give me the assessment unless I was willing to buy contacts. At first I weren't planning to get anything but then I thought my eyesight has gone much worst than I've expected so maybe go ahead with glasses and contacts. After a good 10mins of me saying I've already had a look at the glasses frames before getting the test and I'll go another D&A branch for glasses as unsuitable. As for contacts, I had to actually say 'Yes, I want the dailys'. So she let me try Acuve contacts then I waited around 15mins so my eyes can get use to it then later completed the rest of the assessment which I then told her I'm not interested in contacts no more (my bf was there and said it was a bad deal lolz £14 a month for 10 pairs of dailys and I would have to go into the scheme of minimum 3 months direct debit). Obviously she wasn't too pleased because I've turned down the glasses and contacts. But the glasses frames range were terrible and really so ridiculously expensive!

Anyways, when the examiner spoke to a different assistance who asked me if I had vouchers which I had to explain the story again. Then she asked I'll have to pay for the eye test because only the contacts assessment was free. I read the reinventyourself now leaflet and it certainly did say that only contact assessment free and then you can claim beauty kit. So I explained that when I spoke to Helen she was fine with the test, contacts and beauty kit being free. Aswell as explaining that when I registered on the website it said all those 3 things were free before booking the appointment. The lady was like ' Well Helen isn't here........but another way is.....are you a student?'. The lady let me off because I showed her my University card to prove it so my eye test was then free.

In the end I walked out (didn't pay a penny for anything) with my bf (who had free eye test voucher emailed to him and 100 Nectar points) hiding our faces! lolz we felt like cheap skates!

I've put in my unique code for the beauty kit and hopefully it will come in 5-10days time.

Candyflossing - Luckily I kept asking the examiner if my eye sight has gone worst and I kept peeking what she was writing so eventually she told me my perscription. But I wasn't given a card with the results of my eye test (where as my bf who had his free eye test after me got one). I reckon if they were nice enough and if you annoyed them enough for them to tell you because it's like going to your GP and he doesn't tell you what illness you've got or what medicine he has perscribled you, sort of thing?!

OVERALL - Personally I think the whole procedure was way too long just for these freebies....however I know my perscription so I can order same Acuve contacts much cheaper overseas and glasses too. This beauty kit better be good! If you just want to know your eye sight then just for go for the free eye test voucher and 100 Nectar points because this website thing is silly! lolz sorry!

BTW guys as someone who works in this industry just seeing the comment above about glasses if you don't like what they have don't be afraid to be fussy. Manufacturers 9 times out of 10 carry the same stye in many different colours and if you like one element of a frame say the really groovy thick sides that are now in fashion but you don't like the colour get them to ring and check the colours with the manufacturer and if they do anything similar. They are getting a load of money out of you so its worth paying for something decent. Even the cheaper NHS frames can now contain some quite groovy little styles. Be annoying and ask!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have my eye test on Saturday... just wondering if it's worth the hassle now?

Could really do with some contacts but been told the assesment will not be free unless I actually buy 3 months worth of lenses so I might just go for the tesco eye test at £10!

if the branch has the Reinventyourselfnow leaflet....which is a Accuve Johnsons&Johnsons promotion....i don't think it states you have to buy contacts before getting the assessment and says Free Contacts Trial.....so i don't know if the D&A branch i went to....they just wanted to lure me into buying stuff i guess....maybe read the T+Cs on the leaflet? or just lie and say yes i think i will buy then after the contacts trial you can cancel (Y)

  • I nearly didn't bother going because I'd read other peoples experiences and it sounded like a lot of hassle and I wouldn't end up with my prescription anyway.

In the end I did go and they were really friendly and helpful and I got given my prescription written out without asking for it. I mentioned that I was there for a free eye test and lens assesment and they asked me for vouchers and seemed a bit confused at first but when i mentioned that it was an accuvue trial and that i had to be female and between 16-24 they finally figured it out and went and found me a leaflet with my code on.

They did try and get me to sign up for contact lenses by post but i just said that i wanted to try out the dailies before making my mind up and that i'd ring them when i get back from holiday. They didn't pester me or anything and when they rang to see how my trial had gone and arrange a revisit I just said i'd decided not to sign up and that was that.

I went to the Manchester Arndale one by the way.
  • Hi, I'm an optician (not working for D&A)
just a quick note for anyone going for this offer, if you have a sight test the optometrist is legally obliged to give you a copy of your prescription, whether you pay for the eye test or not. You do not have to buy glasses from them.

Contact lenses are a bit different, they do not have to give you your contact lens prescription straight away (ie after the free trial). You may have to use them for up to 3 months first, so they will try to get you to buy them from them.

At the end of the day, this is simply an badly-run promotion to reel in customers.

The appointment begins something like this:
"So why do you need contact lenses?"
"So what type of glasses lenses are you thinking of buying?"

As bubblez said, they talk you into purchasing before your eye-test begins,

clever- as if you are not willing to make a purchase they in-other-words say: "then why are you here wasting our time". Or they refuse to carry out the test alltogether.

And guess what? Once we had parted with the cash, no call to state the new lenses had arrived instore (as promised) and no call to arrange the contact lens follow-up appointment. All they care about is your money.

D&A is extremely overpriced compared to Boots, Specsavers, Vision Express etc. You might as well pay for the eye test yourself. And the make-up.

This experience has, in all honesty, put me (and my entire family) off D&A for life.

  • Maybe we should write to head office and tell them this.....? They should know that this is bad advertisement since none of the stores know about it and it's not like they have been helpful.
