HP laptop -factory restore option didn't work

HP Windows 7 laptop bought 2 years ago, started constantly crashing.

Tried the factory restore option, which didn't work, didn't even start, came up straightaway with error message.

Don't have any install discs.

Any ideas how to sort this out ?

Can I get HP to repair or supply install discs, as factory restore which you expect to rely on, didn't work ?

Any ideas how & who to contact in HP, as can't see on their website, as usual they expect/force you to pay for support ?

Did you buy it direct from HP?

If not, then HP only need to offer you what is in their guarantee.

If the hard drive fails, how would you expect the recovery that is stored on the hard drive to work?

That is why you had the option, right up until the hard drive fails, to make a Recovery DVD/USB.
    Did you create one?

    Bought from a shop.

So just when you need to rely on factory restore option few years later and can't test beforehand, laptop is out of warranty.

    I'd need to check it.

Soon after selecting factory restore, it says factory restore does not work.

Think yourself lucky it lasted two years. Mine lasted 13 months then started overheating. This is a known problem with their laptops and they have not bothered to take any action to update their design to correct it.

Their customer service is very poor, I doubt if you will get any support from them. I gave in and got a MacBook instead.

Hard drive didn't fail, laptop worked for periods and was crashing.

Didn't know you could create Recovery DVD, was relying on Recovery partition.

When I first tried Factory Restore, it said something like Factory Restore was not successful/could not complete.

Now when laptop boots its says:

"Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    To fix the problem:
    1) Insert your windows installation disc & restart your computer
    2) Choose your language settings and then click Next
    3) Click Repair your Computer"

The disc is not a problem. It's in your Inbox.

Have you tried the options via F8?
