Wanted a Wee free dog!!: Might be happening!

Don't need wi-fi, just wee -free!!
I have house trained several adult girls but never an adult boy and so far seem to get one wee a day up things! I know I have only had him a week but I want to break the habit because he will continue to mark the same spots in the house! Until this matter is under control I am not giving him access to more of the house (for obvious reasons!)
Any tips to discourage cocking his leg indoors please!
His "bits" are coming off tomorrow and I'm thinking that may help.
Fortunately at this stage no accidental poops indoors.....

I don't know how much help I'll be as we re lucky that our boy instinctively pawed to go outside anyway and we got him as a 8 week olf puppy. I guess its because he was born in a kennel outside so I guess his mum taught him it.
I would suggest rubbing some lemon rind on where he has weed to mask the scent and whenever you see him starting to !!!! his leg, grab him and run him outside so he reaslises that thats where its meant to be done.0 -
I rehomed and adult dog with this problem. I think he was basically lazy!
What I did was to take him outside every hour for a wee with big fuss when he performed. Tedious but broke the habit. He is a bit neurotic and it may also have been as a result of this too and as he became more secure he felt less inclined to wee indoors. He had been castrated before we had him.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

My two were castrated quite late in life (about 8 years old), but one, to the vet's surprise, actually never marked again (apparently time is usually needed for hormones to settle) and the other stopped after a couple of weeks, so good luck.0

Is he weeing or marking?
We faced marking for the first time ( just never had it with boys of our other breed) this time. I stayed with him ALL the time and when I saw him said 'no marking' and sounded cross saying it. Mine is a bit of a sensitive flower, and it was quite easy once he realised it was this that I didn't like ( or in his mind probably, 'batty woman opposes normal behaviour, but, ok, keeps her happy) .0 -
Well, the first "accident" wasn't marking- it was quite a big puddle...since then I would say it was marking.
He has this idea that : a wee (indoors) a day helps him snooze, rest and play!
This morning stood outside in the pouring rain with only a towel over my head for ten minutes waiting for action.....got a poop for my trouble. (Big praise and a treat) Progress is certainly being made in that department as he uses the same place each time. However we then had to walk the streets pdq as he seemed determined not to wee in the garden.
I am trying to get the words in but as yet can't see any behaviour that will give me warning.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I have a girlie dog, so I'm not up on he marking boy dogs do, although she does lift her leg like a boy when she has a wee for reasons only known by her

When I got her from the rescue I had no idea whether she was housetrained or not, so I took her out every hour and said "have a weewee". Every time she did, she got lots of praise. She had a couple of accidents indoors, at which times I said "what's this mess?" in a stern voice. She got the point pretty quickly, and hasn't had a wee indoors since. She now pees on command, and every time we go outdoors. She refuses to pee in the garden though, as that's "hers" and she clearly wants to keep it clean. There's grass outside the back gate and she'll happily go there.
Another useful thing I've taught her is to only do her ablutions on grass or other soft standing. She taught herself to give herself privacy when walking, so goes off the path to have a woo. Brilliant when walking in the forest or other remote areas where one can leave the remains to their own devices

Have had no trouble with the girls ( and yes, they have marked too!) but it's this "up the furniture" problem.
Mine will only ever go on a soft surface... I have never trained that. So much so that I can tell you exactly where there is woodchip at Earl's Court exhibition centre!!all the other dogs would go on the sawdust but not mine!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Is there something in the garden that he can wee 'up'? A post, an old plant pot, even sticking a tent peg or something in the ground might help with that.0
-
Loads of things- small tree, tall plants, bushes, trellis......and yes, he uses some of them. My last boy was house trained before I got him...never ever weed in house.
trying to break this "I'm going to wee up settee mindset!!"Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Ah - so it's your dog's poos I get on my shoes when I walk in the forest.
Sorry, but I pick up everywhere, you never know who's going to walk there next!I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this
Use your imagination, or you can borrow mine!0
