I don't think so. I believe that CCs stopped providing insurance on purchases a few years ago.

you can normally claim from the company if the item was faulty, but unless your card explicitly included insurance you won't be able to claim for theft.

Sorry, but why are you thinking a credit card company will assist you?

Have you reported the matter to the police? Have they provided you with a crime number?

£1090 for a lawn mower? That sounds like a big lawn mower! A ride on one perhaps? What sort of vehicle do you have that accomodates that size of lawn mower? A Transit style van perhaps?

What were the circumstances of the theft? e.g. How do you think the thief would have known the vehicle was inside? Was the vehicle locked at the time? If not, why not? If it was, how did they break in? I would have thought they caused damage to the vehicle ... and you are worried about a lawnmower?
Perhaps your vehicle insurance will cover the loss? You'll have to report the matter to them anyway. That's gonna cost you.

Otherwise maybe your household insurance will cover the loss?

I think you've as much chance with your credit card provider as your local green grocer covering the loss.

A few cards offer this kind of protection; Tesco not being one of them.

Someone told me I was, thought I`d ask on here 1st

Have you reported the matter to the police? Have they provided you with a crime number? yes and yes

there is no damage to the van and the van was locked..the police tell me that the use of blockers is becoming commonplace, you think you`ve locked the van but the thief is in the vicinity watching and blocks the signal to lock from your remote control then he waits to pounce

I think you're showing your ignorance a bit here - as bsms1147 points out, a number of credit cards (the most notable probably being the American Express platinum card) DO give 90 days purchase protection aganist your goods being lost or stolen, and if the OP had made the purchase on one of these cards he may well have been covered for the loss. Unfortunately the card he actually used doesn't have that benefit, but it was a perfectly sensible question for him to ask

Certain Amex cards [STRIKE] possibly [/STRIKE] don't (and existing card customers of Nationwide?)

    Ulsterbank specifically excludes it

Theft, attempted theft, malicious damage or damage caused by fire or explosion.
    Nope. Amex excludes it too.

Theft of or damage to vehicles, their parts, or items in a vehicle.
