Wifi set up driving me mad!!!! Help!!!

AAArrrrggghhh !! Ok up until yesterday our 3 computers were happily sharing our virgin broadband connection through a modem router. All computers on windows xp. Yesterday i decided we go wireless ( fool) Bought a D Link wireless router. This is the set up. Wireless router on desktop computer, and working fine. Laptop 2 I installed a belkin usb wireless adapter. Laptop 2 shows the wireless network connection status in system tray and it has good signal strength but I cant get on internet or anything with it. In network connections the wireless connection is showing as connected. Laptop one has built in wifi card, wireless is enabled but it says no network connections available, and in network connections the wireless connection shows as not connected.
I have created a wireless network and put the settings on all computers. I know the wifi is working because I can connect to it on my archos, just put the password in and I can get online fine. I have configured everything I can think of. This has taken all day yesterday, and no I am close to giving up. Flicking through yellow pages I have been quoted £45 to come and fix it all  its tempting, but I am so close yet so far away  does anyone have any ideas before I throw it all out of the window please :o

  • Oh do I feel a whole lot better !!!!!!!!! I have also been having trouble with wireless, so you are not alone. My problem started a couple of weeks ago with a Netgear wg602 wireless adapter that worked for one night only (well it was off ebay !) Then at the weekend I got myself a new belkin Modem/Router/wireless unit. I can't even get that to work, desktop finds the configuration/set up page etc, laptop has a wireless signal, but can I access the internet.........can I hell ! I am now an expert at bumping my head underneath the desk, swearing at the computer, as you say maybe the answer is to throw it all out of the window.:o :o

Just because the laptop can "see" the connection it doesn't mean its connected.
in the configuration of your wireless router you need to add the mac addresses of the 2 pcs not connected directly to the wireless router, this will in turn tell the wireless router to share the connection:rotfl:

Is that all it says? Any numbers?

    ipconfig /all >c:\1.txt
    notepad c:\1.txt

adding mac addresses to the router is only relevant if you have setup mac address filtering on the router, which is not on by default

It's sortable, using help on here, just requires a bit of patience, and is cheaper than £45++

Do a search for ipconfig in the techie forum, there are hundred of solved threads on the same subject.

if you can transfer the c:\1.txt to the working pc using a floppy or usb key, and post it, that would be a start.
