Cheaper landline & fibre broadband....?

Hi.

I'm currently with Plusnet for their landline & broadband combined service. I am paying around £35 each month with unlimited free UK landline calls, free 0800/0845/0870 numbers (i think), a 70+MB fibre broadband and a 24/7 customer service contact number. I am only renting out a flat and i'm tied up with Plusnet but only for a few months.

Stupid question but does that sound a good deal to you guys?

I have not considered BT as they are expensive. Never considered landline+BB deals from the mobile companies as they still can be sometimes expensive.Tried TalkTalk and Virgin but for some reason they could not find my address. But i heard Virgin is good in terms of their broadband speeds and cheap deals.

What do you think guys?

Does Virgin supply cable service to your house is the first question .

IMO your best bet would be to try for a discount when the minimum term is up. You can maybe pay line rental 12 months up front and make a saving. Consider whether you need the calls package - do you have a generous mobile phone contract for instance.

If you can get VM then as a new customer you are unlikely to be offered anything other than the deals you see on their website.

In the main TalkTalk will probably be cheapest. If you are feeling lucky.

Virgin Media keep giving us this door-to-door promotional leaflets saying VM is "available in me area".

But, when i checked their website and rung them they can't seem to find my address which is a bit odd.

    That won't be definitive.

Cable companies stopped extending their networks a long time ago as they ran out of credit. NTL and TeleWest ended up as the only two having bought out those that went bust and were rebranded as Virgin Media around the time they merged so many new build estates within a cable are can't get it. They didn't cable areas based on exchange coveraage either so often an exchange will cover both cabled and non cabled areas. SamKnows will at best say available in some areas and won't go into detail.

The definitive answer has to come from VM themselves although they do sometimes have some problems finding flats and the like for some reason.

Is there any rumour about a possible set-top box from Plusnet similar to BT or Sky?
