Is there any way to check if it is a private road? .... there's a 1% chance he could be right about that. The house I might be buying is on a private road, but there are no signs to say so....0

But one day you'll learn how incredibly frustrating and rude it seems when strangers use the outside of your home as a parking space. Even though they have a perfect right to do so.
Believe me I know what it's like...and it doesn't bother me at all! Happens every day. It's just a fact of life.
Obviously it would bother me if someone was blocking my actual drive, but I was causing no obstruction at all.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

I did think that for a second, but it's definitely a public road, it's the main road for a large estate. Loops around and back onto the main road.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Cracking urban legend, until you realise how much it'll cost to insure an old van, then you realise why it's just a legend. But then again, if it shows on askmid as being insured, all you do is spend a couple of quid, get the insurance details, nick a wheel one very dark night, and very generously report the incident to the insurer for the van owner. Then they can have years of reporting the incident, or even better, finding their insurance gets cancelled.0 -
I would have pulled away, watched which house he went into, then, if legal, parked right outside it.0

So, several thousands pounds worth of your property, unwatched, and you'd simply use it to annoy someone who's already p*ssed off with you? You think his neighbours would be beating a path to you to shop him? Or simply claiming they hadn't seen a thing? Probably not your best judgement call.0 -
I'd park there more often... but then cars to us are very disposable where as if you own a nice car it may be a different story.0

The alternative being to allow people like this to bully and threaten their way through life then0 -

Except that "many years ago" (in fact, only about 2 or 3 years ago) there was no continuous insurance / SORN requirement and no MID. Lots of cars were parked up without insurance as long as the tax was in date and no-one really cared unless they got driven.
Still probably an urban legend, but not for the reasons you gave0 -

Always seems risky to me upsetting strangers, when they clearly know where you live. You might wake up one morning months later with "PEDO" in big letters across your windows, and you won't have a clue who did it.
That's why I ignore the occasional gang of crackheads gathering on the corner by by house to drink their lager and smoke drugs. They go after a couple of hours, and the worst problem I get is having to pick up a couple of half empty tins off my wall. If I went out and had an altercation, one day I find all 4 of my tyres flat or worse. Takes them a few seconds to "get even", I could spend years keeping watch to make sure they don't.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
