Go to a baby emporium & test drive - with different weights.

I'm presuming there's a father around? In which case, he needs to testdrive too! Length of stride, handle height etc all influence just how hands-on he'll want to be. As a mincing pace & crippling backache discourage a bloke somewhat.

If you do not contemplate public transport (& lucky you) then pack-flat-ability is moot. Whether it'll fit in the car boot or need it's own trailer becoems much more to the point. Also, can you prep it for loading into car one handed? (Presuming other occupied by infant.)

This being a MS website, I'd have to point out the virtues of buying secondhand - it may not be This Years Colour but at least it'll come from a vendor who can assemble & disassemble it & teach you these skills!

As soon as young 'un does not need to be transported flat, you *may* be looking at a second vehicle for sheer ease of use.

There is little wrong with having a fleet of pushchairs (we ended up with one per child plus a spare bought on holiday, ahem) so do not get too hung up about it!

    Mine was:

    Tall as possible
    Proper lie flat carry cot
Parent facing for as long as needed
    Use with car seat
Can be pushed easily one handed

My best friend had wanted the Stokke, but couldn't justify the spend. She has 2 children and bought 5 cheap prams and strollers when they were small. She spent far more on them than she would have spent on the Stokke. I didn't look at anything else. Bought it during an offer, used it from day 1 (DD had every nap in it for 2 years). Bought a new car to fit it in (it filled the boot of my other car!) There were a couple of minor downsides, but I LOVED that pram!

The Xplory is lush IMO. That is what I have gone with. I wanted tall as possible (OH 6ft3), very sturdy, decent warranty (indicates quality IMO) and MUST manoeuvre easily with one hand.
When test driving loads of prams the Xplory stood out as quality feeling and the three year warranty speaks for itself. The Quinny Moodd was next in line.
  • I have a baby jogger city select which is great as a single but I find it super heavy when it is used as a double (I guess you get this with any double though). I have tried a variety of strollers, the phil and ted, maclaren single and twin, bugaboo and the quinny buzz as well as the baby jogger.
The best singles for my needs were the quinny and bugaboo and the best double is the one ive got now (baby jogger).
the benefit of the baby jogger is that it can be a single or a double and both children can be parent facing.
I love it, the ONLY bad point is that it can be heavy when going up a kirb or hill (but like this with all doubles). I LOVE IT.
the ONLY pram I would change it for is the bugaboo donkey but at £1300 its wayyyyyyy out of my pricerange and not very MSE!
hope you fine a lovely pram.

Try pushing one. Try folding one. Try lifting one. Doesnt matter which bra d but if you dont get on with it in the shop its gonna be worse with a baby. Icandy strawberry suited my needs but isnt cheap and the flavor pack is a extorsionate system

We wanted a travel system and when our daughter was born britax were the only ones making a lay flat car seat/cot so that made our mind up, obviously safety aside another advantage is that you only need to put the frame in the boot.

I am just starting to research prams/buggies myself. I have read new medical evidence that having a young baby in a travel system isn't the greatest idea ie: keeping in same 'seat/bed' in car/bus then taking into a house/caf! (etc..), putting back into main part to walk then staying in same thing to sleep later on. It's all to do with their spinal growth. I'll try and post the links I found.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have the bugaboo cam & it's great. Really easy to use, easy to fold, not heavy, carrycot is huge so lasts longer, car seat goes on when nipping into shop (no way can I carry the car seat anymore!). The only pain is the shopping seat is v inaccessible when using the carrycot but I don't use it much anyway.

  • we have the M & P zoom. I like it a lot.

When my baby was about 2 months old I discovered babywearing and have since spent much more on slings than I did on my pram.

We are looking now for a pram that will have a carrycot attatchment, but the carrycot bit has to be big! Obvious one is the bugaboo cameleon, or the hauck viper i think?. Want a bigger carrycot as planning on using the cot part for daytime naps during the day, and car size isnt an issue, will have a mum bus once i pass my test! Any ideas and suggestions would be great, as we had a m&p travel system for first two, but not keen on having them sat in car seat for extended times
