Rental nightmare - Prices are totally out of control

I just wanted to have a rant really. I have been renting for 17 years and in that time ive had around 14 properties. I am now being forced to move again (due to my LL being a total t*sser). I have been looking on right move around my area(currently hatfield and surrounding) and the prices are just nuts. I put in the search to look at 4 bed min, 2500 per month and theres nothing. In borehamwood, the cheapest 4 bed is £3K, how on earth am i meant to afford that?
Yes im sure i could get a 3 bed and yes at a push one of my 3 children could share, but i dont think thats fair and tbh, this isnt about that, its about greedy bloody landlords killing us all with the pathetic rents they want to charge. plus the agent who wants £300 for printing a standard agreement and the £15 they get charged to do a credit check and putting all under a lovely - Admin fee!!!
GRRRR I wish i could buy something but cant get in front enough to get any kind of deposit together. Sick of this rental market

You could get yourself a nice 4 bed bungalow for £1,900 pcm in Bricket Wood and it's much nicer here than Borehamwood

FYI - there's a 4 bed in Elstree for £2,800 and it's pretty nice .. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-43575742.html
Get your kids to share, find a 3 bed, save some deposit.. then pay a LOT less in mortgage than you will do in rent0 -

There are quite a few 4-bedroomed properties in Hatfield (see link above) but many of them are for students.
There is one for £1250 in Park Meadow (I used to live there many years ago, it's a good development, very near the station).
You might find WGC better, here are a few, one brand new with excellent rating on EPC so bills should be low:

I agree with what you say about LA fees.0 -
pay half that on the south coast, nicer environment for the kids but 5k+ and 4-5hrs commute...0

i dont know how you do it ! you can pay a mortgage on a 4 bed detached for about 700 quid a month in other parts of the country !0

Prices have gone a bit loco around there over the last few years0 -
This has nothing to do with 'greedy' landlords but with many people wanting wanting to live in the same area combined with a shortage of properties.0

You have my sympathy re. affordability but what is wrong with children sharing? I suppose it depends on their age and sex but I shared with my sister for most of my childhood between the ages of about 5 and 170

Kids soon grow up and leave home, I would go Into a large 2 double bed roomed and put a partition up. Buying not renting if I could , in fact I would sleep in the lounge if it meant the difference between paying those prices and owning.0

It do have some sympathy but when I read things like 'it's not fair' it makes me less sympathetic.
Letting property is a business, it's a question like other things of supply and demand. The landlord needs to make money from his asset and if properties are expensive to buy they are expensive to rent.
So, move somewhere less expensive, rent a smaller property, earn more money look for a council or social housing property.
Hope you have more luck soon.0
