Reviews on Skyscanner, Kayak and Travel Trolley

I am trying to book a flight to Nigeria for a friend (for September). I have found the cheapest quotes in Skyscanner.net and kayak (that is sending me to Travel Trolley), comparing to Opodo and the airline website. I have never used these sites at all before (I just followed the link from MSE for Budget airline flightchecker). I would like to know if anyone has used Travel Trolley/kayak or skyscanner before, any problem, hidden fees or anything you had with your booking? The difference is not that big only 40 pounds cheaper than Opodo, but I have always booked with Opodo without a problem so I wonder if it is worth it or not.

Was that under Opodo's old owners or new owners ?

These are great search assistants, and people like 'travel trolley' may pay to pop up in search result links, but I don't trust these agents.

40 quid is probably not much as a percentage of the flight cost, so I'd book with the airline.

    Where you off to Littlereddevil?

I'm think about a few weeks multi-centre in Sep/Oct to Bali, via a few days in Bangkok to start and end with.

I'm getting some great deals with Air Asia Go from Bangkok to Bali and also booking hotels with them.

But the prices of flights between London and Bangkok are putting me off a bit.

Stu, here's a review I did (LancasterLad) on Fodor's of our first week in Kathmandu. It goes on a bit...

    http://www.fodors.com/community/asia/nepal-522531-2.cfm

And our eventful Greenline bus to Pokhara...

    http://www.fodors.com/community/asia/nepal-the-prithvi-highway-pokhara-and-bandipur.cfm

I haven't posted anymore yet as I've run out of puff.

But we enjoyed Pokhara, even though I think it's becoming too overdeveloped and is starting to kill off the goose that laid the Golden Egg.

We love Bandipur, which really is a traffic-free living museum.

Bhaktapur was so-so. It's spoiled by too much 2-wheeled traffic riding aimlessly through the narrow streets. We were there for Bisket Jatra, which was a bit dangerous at times, and a bit bloody (not the place for animal lovers!)

Went by public bus up to Nargakot. I can see the appeal on a clear day, but they're very rare in the Kathmandu Valley.

Had a few nights in Thamel. Didn't like it very much.

Did the cremation thing at Pashupatinath. But we just felt like we were intruding, but our morbid curiosity was fulfilled.

Finished off in a monastery guesthouse in Boudha, which was really enjoyable.

Overall, glad we went, loved the people, and the scenery. Hated the filth, stench and pollution of Kathmandu, and the Bagmati River is just an open sewer.

I would have thought that fares to Bangkok would be quite good at the moment as so many people are being up off due to the "situation" over there.

As you know I'm a Bangkok & Thailand regular but I'm going to give it a miss this year. It's not due to the coup but just that I have been there 5 years out of the last 6 so I fancy somewhere different in SE Asia. So, after much consideration, I've just finished planning a trip to Hong Kong and then Hanoi and Hoi An in Vietnam. The Hong Kong part is going to be expensive but it's a city that I've always wanted to go to.

As for the search sites, I used Kayak and Skyscanner extensively to research routes but then almost always book directly with the airlines. I wouldn't trust a 3rd party that I had never heard of especially if they were significantly cheaper than everyone else.

    +1.

Today I've been looking at return flights to Bali from London.

My best best, but not the cheapest is with Garuda via Jakarta...

But taking all things into consideration it does work out the cheapest, ie...

    - LGW is much more convenient for us than LHR.

    - Daytime outward flight @ c1300.

    - Daytime arrival in Bali @ c1700.

    - Ditto on return flights.

    - No need for overnight hotel accommodation at Gatwick in either direction.

    - I'd have liked a couple of overnights in Bangkok in both directions, but there's always a next time.

    - Going down the DIY route to Bali looks v.good value, especially if you've got a few weeks to play with.:)

Flights booked with Garuda, 24 Sep to 23 Oct.
    Let the planning commence.:)
  • I used Travel Trolley to book a flight last week. I made the booking on Travel Trolleys website redirected from SkyScanner. They made the booking and took the funds from my bank account. Then at midnight they emailed me to say there was a problem. I had to get up early to drive to the airport so I called them. The problem was that I had bought the ticket for my wife, and so the name was different on the credit card to the ticket. I'm sure many people have bought tickets for others, and apparently this is possible if you use their website....which I did. However they wanted me to use another card, with her name on, which was not possible due to us recently getting married and her passport is in her maiden name but her bank account is now in her married name. They then wanted me to take a photo of my credit card and email it to them, as this was the only way they could confirm the details. Never mind the verification website from my bank?!?!
When I suggested this was an insecure method of performing the transaction, they then asked me for another credit card??? All this and they had already taken the money from my account!!.
Needless to say I called the airline directly, bought a ticket for my wife using my card, cheaper than travel trolley and cancelled the travel trolley booking.
I am still waiting for an email confirming the cancellation, and a callback from them. Nothing for three days.
DO NOT USE THEM - THEY ARE USELESS. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MORE EXPENSIVE THAN BOOKING DIRECT WITH THE AIRLINE.
