    Hi

Thanks for all the feedback. No, they didn't tell me i'd be opting out of the cap and i only received texts (several times) that i was in a different country and that i should get in contact to add a bundle, however, i had already added one that was meant to cover me during the holiday so didn't see the need to keep on calling them.

As mentioned in the original post, the only time i heard that i had exceeded (and by that, i mean £1000 exceeded) was on the 19th May but nothing before hand to say i was close to using the allowance. Speaking to them today they have said that the whole exceeded data part was made on the 10th and 11th of May so they sent me a text 7 days after the fact.

Another gripe is before i left, I logged online to add a bundle and chose the best one they had on offer which was £60 for 30mb over a month period (not great), once i arrived in the states, i was sent a text telling me to contact Orange as they had a bundle for £6 and 30mb a day (a bit better) and once i called them, the advisor offered me £10 a day for 100mb. so there was absolutely no consistency in what they offered.

As it stands now, they are apparently discussing my case and will get back to me on what they can offer. They do seem to be very jovial about the whole thing too! 'Oh, £1000 does seem a little much!' as they laugh over the phone...

One other thing, is looking at Oranges (not EE's) site, i cannot see anywhere in the T and Cs where it says i would be opted out of the cap if i took a bundle. I'll see what they say if and when they call me tomorrow. Again, thanks for all the advise. It's just so annoying because, a) i thought i was actually doing the right thing for once and b) it's quite a chunk of money! :)

When you take this bundle, we will remove the data roaming limit of £42.
It says this for every data bundle.

Just an update and an end to this, I received a call from EE yesterday to apologise and to say that all charges have now been cancelled and they gave me £150 credit!

I used the eecomplaints website to help me and covered several different points of where they failed me (The section on the website i bought the bundle did not tell me it would take away the capping).

    Anyway, all done now. :)

That was a relief - I always keep a spare payg sim JUST for use abroad NEVER my contract sim - at least that way when my data runs out I simply loose my internet connection till I buy another bundle rather than automatically rolling onto £8 per mb. It's normally £10 for 100mb for a payg data bundle in USA so still not cheap compared with the EU (£3 for 100mb bundle)

Thats very good news for you, i can only hope enough people read this thread as a warning of the tactics of the mobile operators.
I think the moral of this is if you intend to use data abroad and buy a bundle, make sure you have more than enough data allowance to cover your intended use.

Although EE is a shambles at the moment i think what the T-Mobile side of the business does with data roaming is the way to go, you cant use any data unless you buy a bundle and when it runs out your internet stops unless another bundle is added so there is no way in getting a shock data roaming bill

If you are a regular visitor to the USA (and 15 other countries from 1st July), consider moving to Three as they include the USA in their "Feel at Home" countries, where you can mostly use your phone in the same manner, and for the same inclusive minutes/text/data, as if you were in the UK
