Wedding ring dilemma

skintchick wrote: »And I personally wouldn't have anything other than platinum (and really don't like GOLD gold at all), but why share that opinion? You are sounding very judgemental and it's not even answering the original question (which if you had read the dull thread you would see is resolved as OP now has the ring she wants).
And if ever there was an example of making something out of nothing; there you have it.
Lily-rose didn't say anything any worse than anyone else on this thread; many said they prefer normal plain gold - just like she did, but she is the only one you have a dig at! And she pointed out that she would only have gold-normal gold, and wouldn't have white gold. So what?
And she enclosed pics of nice patterned gold rings for examples.
You didn't mention that of course; it would have got in your way of your personal attack on her.
A platinum wedding ring? You sound like a pretentious prat to me.
Not nice is it?
Stick to the thread matter and quit the personal attacks. It just makes you look like a nasty petty troll.
For what it's worth, plain old fashioned gold is much better than platinum or white gold IMO. As MANY have stated on this thread. But God forbid someone should post their opinions on a PUBLIC message forum.(•_•)

It was the fact that the OP has resolved this, and hadn't mentioned gold at all.
I don't mind if you think platinum is pretentious. I chose it because it is a white metal requiring no maintenance and very hard wearing. It's practical.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Platinum is much more brittle so won't bend and is far less likely than gold or silver to drop a stone!
Anyway,in response to posts on here,no rings are 'designed' to be worn swimming,in the shower, while doing dishes etc etc You can wear them if you want but it's not really recommended.wear and tear and all that!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I am in the 'less is more' camp here. A nice plain (ish) wedding ring would be fine: I find the ones in the OP ghastly actually. JMO.
There are plenty of fairly normal gold bands you can get that have a wee jazzy pattern on them, that look HEAPS better than the ring in the OP.
I think mse is great for different views. The pics you showed were versioned not to my taste, I wouldn't wear any of them, I wouldn't say someone's choice is ghastly either but each to their own.
Pleased op has what she wants.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I don't think preferring platinum is pretentious? Of course people can have options but no need to be nasty is replies.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

For what it's worth, I'm also not a fan of the OP's choice of ring (but she likes it and that's all that matters)....but then again I think the one posted above with a name engraved on it is really tacky....which just goes to show, we all have different tastes.
I thought it was awful too, in fact I didn't like any of the rings in that post.
But that's just my opinion, I guess.
I hope the OP's ring last as long as she hopes it will and that in 20 or 30 years time, she still loves it as much as she obviously does now.
It is, after all, her own personal choice.
From the photos in the original post, the one she chose did look the nicest.0 -
What a judgemental thread! I can't believe that people can get so unpleasant telling a poster that their choice is horrible. We all have different taste and the initial post was not about whether we liked the OPs choice, but about deciding between the two suggested.
OP, I happen to like your style of choice (certainly much much better than the pictures suggested on last page). I wouldn't go for it because it looks too big for my little fingers, but I like the idea.
I'm glad I never put a picture of my wedding ring when I got married. It is not conventional any longer, it is my grand mother's. I find it stunning though. It's platinium with small diamonds incrusted all around. It's tiny and stylish and I love it because it is different to the current traditional style. Even better, without knowing, my OH chose a gorgeous platinium engagement ring that looks as if it came with the wedding ring. In the end, who cares what others think, it is about what makes your heart beats faster when you look at it.0 -
Yep, horses for courses really.
My daughter wanted her great grans Welsh red gold ring (made in 1920) altered for her, and that's what she had.
I preferred new, plain gold ring for mine, so, DH and I had those, to match, with engraving on the inside.
I quite liked the OP's choice of rings, just felt that, for me, they were more eternity or dress.
Having said that, my DIL, in America had a highly decorative wedding ring with diamonds and sapphires - her choice.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Reading this thread has just reminded me, slightly off topic, but does anyone know the best way of cleaning rings, with and without stones?

Sounds daft birdy, but me and hubby always clean ours by soaking them for half hour to an hour in neat fairy washing up liquid.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!
