parking ticket with a difference.

hi all. newbie here with a query. have searched the forum and cannot find anything similar.
I received a parking ticket on a private pay and display car park after misreading the expiry time. genuine mistake and I accepted it.
as I entered my ticket number on the automated service to pay it replied with an incorrect reg. all of the details on the actual ticket are correct. I managed to speak to someone at the company and it appears that ticket number gives an incorrect reg. car and issue time to my case.
He desperately tried to get my reg and personal details off me but I refused until I researched it more.
after asking me for the umpteenth time and failing he hung up! he warned me the fine still stands but I am unsure how they can issue it if their system doesnt match up to the details in the ticket?
any advice would be greatly received.
thanks in advance

It may differ slightly, but the way you deal with it is as per the Newbies thread at the top of the forum.
We need to know when this happened, did you get a windscreen ticket, have you had a NtK and who the PPC was.
But read the Newbies thread first.0 -
It seems you have had a bit of good luck that you haven't paid anything, because now, with a little research and careful reading of the Newbies thread you will discover you don't have to pay a penny.
Read the aforementioned thread and then if you still need advice come back. Give more details as Guy's Dad has said.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.0 -
hi folks. excuse my niavety but what in particular am I looking for on the newbies thread. I had a glance at it but I thought it was for people fighting/appealing tickets.
it happened a week ago today. I received a window ticket and the company was parking awareness services0 -

Your invoice is no different to all the other 1000's. The newbies thread tells you how to successfully appeal the ticket so that you don't have to pay anything.
Wait for NTK and then follow the advice on how to successfully appeal.
Edit: Although given that they don't have your reg, you probably won't get the NTK, so this maybe the last you hear of it.0 -
it also tells you that under POFA 2012 the NTK should arrive between day 29 and day 56 after the windscreen ticket was issued
its also not a FINE , its an invoice , a parking charge notice , not a fine or penalty0 -
Parking Awareness are members of the IPC -
so they have different appeals systems and also if they are not going down the POFA and registered keeper route - don't hold your breath for a Ntk within the set time frame.
Don't often see this company - don't suppose the signs had warnings for yellow cars did they:)

edit also :
as waste of time for you to phone the company .... did he really call it a FINE or is that your statement?0 -
so I should wait for the ntk (if they have my details to send it) and then appeal?
I can't say I recall him referring to it as a fine, just the generic term I would use.0 -
Yep wait until the Notice to keeper arrives in this case - looks as if they haven't got the facility to check payments against incorrectly entered details .....
Also thanks to a lot of hard work by other forum members - the IPC have now been forced to accept appeals from the registered keeper - see parking prankster blogs.
AND IT IS NOT A FINE!!!
AS you have already been told0 -

Yes - that's you - fighting/appealing a ticket, like everyone else - unless you intend paying it.
I can't say I recall him referring to it as a fine, just the generic term I would use.
And yes again - fine and ticket are the same thing to many folks and that's why they pay up and get ripped off.
But they are very much NOT the same thing.
If you overtook me at 57mph in an area that I deemed to have a speed limit of 53mph and I sent you an Iceweasel Speeding Awareness Services ticket for £100 - would you pay me????
The PPCs count on people not knowing the difference.
Count yourself lucky that you have found out in time that you need not pay them anything.
If they were playing fair and square they ought just to be asking you for another hour or so parking fee - not the ridiculous amount they are no doubt invoicing you for.0
