Sainsburys - Bad Customer Service.

I don't think some of these people are living in the real world.
If you start opening all the cartons then Sainsbury's would refuse to replace on the basis that it looks like you're lying and have simply opened more than one for impact. If I open one and its gone bad, I would always assume its safe to think its a batch made at the same time and so not worth opening any more.
If you have no sympathy for somebody ordering a service because they need the help, and being upset when the services went wrong, then you may as well write off the old, young or disabled any time they need help!
God forbid you ever need any help! This is the first thread here where I've seen people turn on a poster for no apparent reason and frankly I'm a bit disappointed as I thought it was all a well intentioned bunch here!
I'd take the complaint higher, as although it makes business sense for them not to resolve it, they can and bloody well should resolve it and are purposefully taking the mickey in not doing so!
Complain and use a competitor. I know for sure that ASDA have resolved a number of issues like this within the day and I think most people if told 'I can see you have delivery slots' would be embarrassed into at least providing some ideas about what you could do.0 -

OP knows one of them was off. It didn't blow. How, therefore, do you extrapolate that some of the others must be OK because they haven't blown?0 -

Who said open all the cartons?
OP is sitting there with no milk, why wouldn't they try another carton?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Thanks for your more sympathetic and constructive comments. I made light of the more negative comments, but put it down to a changing social mores and a concomitant perception of what is appropriate standards. Perhaps it is due to the pressures on people these days, that my complaint seems insignificant in terms of what they are personally experiencing.0 -
Wouldn't occur to me to get Tesco to redeliver anything, I just phone them & get the money credited.
On a side note UHT tastes like s**t why not get normal milk & freeze it?0 -

The chances of all of them being off are very slim. As I have said, if the product was sealed airtight and was off, it would have blown, it is natural for a product which is decomposing, which going sour means, will give off gas. The bacteria which is making it go sour naturally give it off. It is the same as when you eat something, you fart. Natural.
The one that they opened up first of all, was not blown, so the only way the milk could have gone off, is either by there being a hairline nick in the carton, or the aluminium seal, wasn't sealed properly. The chances of all of them being the same is almost non existent. If you have ever worked in a supermarket, you will know what happens sometimes with cutting boxes/shrink wrap. You cut things by accident. Usually you end up with a puddle of, say orange juice around you feet, sometimes milk. Sometimes, with what happened to me one time, 5 litres of brilliant white emulsion paint. If it hasn't totally split open, you may have just nicked it, just enough to let air in, but no liquid out.
Any supermarket worth their weight,( which includes Sainsburys) will be used to things like this. The customer services dept are used to it. You can take a 1/2 eaten cake back to most supermarkets and say it is off, or tastes bad and they will replace or refund it for you. Try it and you will see, it does work. They wont taste it, they will just swap/refund it.
I come on here regularly and do see a lot of your comments to people and in the most parts agree with your views. However over the past couple of weeks, you have picked up on and had a bit of a pop at some things I have said on here. Why is that? Have I done something to offend you? The above is quite reasonable and most likely accurate in what has actually happened here, so why pick holes? If you want to see how accurate I have been with this, get a carton of longlife milk, stick a pin into the carton and leave it on your counter top for a few days and see what happens. The above will happen.
Now get off my case and carry on with your normally very good advice.0 -

They did offer to credit the cost of the UHT milk. However, this did not solve my problem. I opted for delivery because of the weight issue. Unopened UHT milk lasts for months so can be bought in bulk and delivered. I do not want to shop frequently to replenish fresh milk.
My wife has a neck/back problem and we are fairly mature (but not at all incapable), so it is down to me for heavier items. I decided a little while back to arrange delivery of the heavier/bulk items, purely to make life easier when it comes to carrying bags of groceries up stairs into a flat. My wife would possibly prefer to do more frequent shopping, it is me that pushes for delivery, as I accept we need to protect our joints etc.
We do not have a large enough freezer to store any quantity of milk. UHT milk can be bought in reasonable bulk and stored in a cupboard for some time before use.
Surprisingly, semi skimmed UHT milk supplied in the one litre cardboard cartons, once chilled, tastes quite good and creamy. I used to be a fresh milk person and resistant to UHT milk, but was won over. I now enjoy it as much as the fresh milk. Perhaps it is an acquired taste, but I possibly prefer it to fresh milk.0 -
I don't understand why OP can't open one more carton and see if it's okay. If it is, then use it until the replacement comes. If not, then go to the nearest shop for some? You said that the main reason for ordering on-line was the weight rather than no shops in the vicinity. A pint of milk isn't too heavy.0

I didn't mean to create dissent by this thread. I have vented and am happy for this thread to end without further acrimony.0
