Car Accident - What Now?
Comments

Ok so I have claimed on my insurance since it says am covered for business and commuting. I checked with the company and they do not cover my journey to/from work only when making deliveries.
1. I gave the other driver the companies insurance details, will this matter as I have now opened a claim with my own insurance?
2. What affect will making a claim have on my renewal next year? I haven't got any no claims and have now lost my first year already. Will it go up next year? It's already through the roof.
3. My excess is quite high (£500) which I have to pay to repair centre. Will I get any of this back if other driver is found split liability?
The other party will repay you the excess proportionately, so if it goes 50:50 they will pay half; if they admit fault they pay all.
Or you could contact the third parties insurance direct and see if they accept liability or not.
I'd be selective in your statement to your insurer though - 'I was driving the other night on x roundabout...', not 'I was on my way home from work'0 -
If you have given the other driver the companies insurance details
your insurance company will probably find out and it will cause confusion and for them to question your stated job description.
This is your biggest mistake and if they think you have been deceptive they could increase your premium for the current year or cancel your policy.
Whatever happens your next years policy would be increased because of the accident.0 -
You will only get a portion of the excess back if the cost to your insurer is less than £500.
You can expect your premium to increase on renewal.0 -
I think you are possibly in quite a spot of bother. Yes as mentioned you are supposed to declare any accidents, irrespective of fault. And given the other guy may claim against you, you'd be crazy risking not telling them. Also, I could be wrong but I think couriers need special insurance, or at least you should have told them about using the car for that. Saying you didn't have time as you only worked there two days is no excuse, I doubt you woke up one day and started the job by accident, it takes minutes to call them.
Not sure how you'll sort this one out, I guess you could just give your business insurance out and pay for your own repairs, but you'll still have to tell your insurers.
Good luck!
Sorry I missed your last post, sounds like you aren't in as bad a shape as it first sounded.0 -
