Car Accident - What Now?

I have just had an accident on a roundabout. I was on outside lane going around, other car was on the inside behind me. He has gone for an exit and hit to rear drivers side of my car. It was quite a lot of force and I could liken it to a pit manoeuvre as I was nearly spun out of control.

Anyway, I am covered fully comp by my own insurance however I was driving my car on business which is covered by my company 3rd Party only.

What do I need to do? I believe he was at fault but want to get my car repaired ASAP and not wait for the lengthy investigation into fault. Also there were no witnesses so I think it's probably likely 50/50 as he will say it was my fault. What can I do?

It seems your comprehensive policy doesn't cover you for business journeys.

If so, you only have third party cover for business journeys and you either pay for the repairs yourself (if you are to blame) or pursue a claim direct with the third party insurer if they are to blame, (though if liability is disputed this won't be quickly sorted!)

Bit late for this incident. But upgrade your insurance to cover business use. It may cost nothing extra in the premium.

Admini charge for a change though.

Check the road signs and markings to check which lane you should have been in for your exit, and same for the other driver.

Just to clarify, my policy does have business use on it however I have 2 occupations and this is my side job (deliveries) which my insurers are not aware of.

Also in relation to weather or not I was in the correct lane, this roundabout in particular is quite a large tricky one without clear lanes or markings. I would agree that we were both in the incorrect (non logical) lane for our respective exits however as he was behind me on the right and I was clearly indicating right he would have clearly seen me and should have slowed down.

Your first post indicated he turned in on you, now your saying you turned in on him.

Well if you second post is true it's your fault, you cant just turn into somebody assuming they are going to slow down for you.

Sounds like he was changing lanes to left lane as per his exit. You used a lane designed to exit and went straight on. Making you at fault. The fact you was indicating doesn't mean you can just go anywhere you want.

Saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the insurer just took the view he struck you from behind and was therefore at fault, especially with no witnesses

This could invalidate your normal insure as you have failed to declare this job. You will also have to declare this accident when you renew.

    Totally conflicting information.

It would appear that you were on the "inside" lane and he was on the "outside" lane...... it would seem that you were in the wrong lane for turning right , he was probably in one the correct lanes for going straight on.

This is probably going to go against you...not 50/50.

OP outside lane is lane furthest to the right on the road (carriageway), although on a roundabout you think it is the inside lane because it it nearest the roundabout it is still the outside lane.

Sounds to me like arcon5 is on the money.
