Travel Insurance - Motorbike Hire in Austria

I am planning to ride the Austrian Alps (mountain roads) sometime in July and wanted to hire a motorbike in Austria.

I will mostly be in Austria but a little in Germany.

I wanted to get some travel insurance and wondered whether foreign vehicule hire (motorbike in this case) was included in the T&Cs of travel policies or if whether I have to specifically mention this.

Planning on riding for about 7 days and will be riding on normal roads, no off road stuff.

Not sure if any travel insurance automatically covers the policy holder hiring / riding a motorcycle abroad. I just wanted to make sure that in the event anything happens and for example, I require repatriation I am fully covered.

The bike is likely to be a BMW F 800 GS (800 cc)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which travel insurer to approach?

Many thanks for any info provided.
Cheers

I have just got travel insurance from Carol Nash for a trip to France tomorrow. Give them a bell to check if they cover hire riders.

Many thanks for your reply,. I will try them.

I know that the bike hire will include comprehensive insurance but I am not sure what the fine print says as regards personal cover hence prefer to rely on my own travel insurance

A lot of companies limit motorbike riding to 125/150cc so check the small print.

I have heard about the cc limit. The small print is always the problem.

Googled and came up with this site. It states that the ones listed cover you up to 800cc bikes.

It is you that is insured, so it doesn't matter if you hire, or take your own. Any damage to a bike, is covered by the motorcycle insurance, which I would advise you take out top whack insurance for that.
