If you have successful sales on facebook...

I have seen many people on MSE say they are successfully selling their unwanted items on facebook. I know there are 4 different ways to sell on there. You can either:

1) sell on your own page
2) sell on a local group page
3) sell in the actual facebook virtual mall (payvment or whatever)
4) sell on a global selling group

I have tried 1, 2 and 3 but have had no success with any. I have some stuff to clearout and just want rid lol.

I just wondered if anyone can shed any light on which area of facebook is the best way to sell? Which area do you manage to sell the most through, which one would you recommend or would you recommend all 4?

Hope that makes sense.

In my area, 2) seems very successful.

However if you're at all squeamish about grammar, spelling or manners then these local groups aren't for you. If I had £1 for every time I saw someone put where or we're instead of were, I would have £26 just today.

Ignore as well if you have an aversion to being called 'babe' or 'hun'.

OP, stuff can sell on Facebook, but it is not easy and it can be slow, I actually only sell a very small percentage of the items I list. Even then in about 50% of the cases the buyer messes me about or just completely fails to turn up as arranged.

That's true Soolin - I do see a lot of "sorry it's gone" without apostrophe of course, then a day later "sfs".

Not sure why but the facebook for sale groups do seem to be 90% female.

Saw an ad yesterday that had double exclamations after each!! word!! Makes an ebay l@@k seem the very epitome of reservation.

    Bye! hun!! XXXXXXXXXX

I've sold quite a few large baby items on my local selling pages quite easily but it can be time consuming as you have to bump your items several times a day and there is timewasters who don't turn up to collect. I think it also depends on what you are selling and what price as people do like a bargain on these sites.

    Oh yes the kisses....:o every message peppered with them. I send buyers my mobile number and they update me with collection times and every text has kisses- on a good selling week my phone looks like it belongs to a pimp;

    'ALMOST THERE BABE XX'
'love item, love you hun x'
'sorry can't make it tonight babe'

I have a friend with her own selling page and that seems to do OK, it depends how much you want to sell. She puts a few items on every week.
  • This post has made me laugh. :rotfl:

I am used to the spelling mistakes as most people on my friends list can't spell lol so that's no bother. Regarding the kisses and hun, as a business seller on ebay, I get these a lot too from customers.

Thanks for the advice about the facebook groups though. I think I have come to the conclusion that I will try my items on all 4 and just see what happens. My stuff will be cheap anyway as I just want to get rid of it

I have just today finished my first sale in a long while on ebay, it has been a few years and I know it's silly but I was worried about getting it wrong.

I find the local selling sites here are pretty good. I check ebay for completed listing prices then knock a bit off for paypal, fee's etc.

I get very frustrated by 'no-show' buyers and the lack of manners but there are some good sites in this area with strict admin who delete all the dodgy looking posts and abusive people that seem to flock to facebook selling pages.

Having bought a few clothes from a facebook national site i wont EVER be doing that again, even by paying paypal. Far prefer ebay as a buyer as you tend to get what is described, in the condition its described for things you can't see before handing money over.

I sell my old DVD's, random items of furniture and even extra garden plants using local facebook sites. I also give random things away free to save paying someone to collect what I see as rubbish.

I would buy from a local business on facebook but would be suspicious of a company that is from further away.. I am not sure why but it would just look a bit strange to me.

I've had a Facebook item collected today but am being mucked about by someone else who is sending me bizarre messages and leaving odd comments on my posts.

Just after Christmas I managed to get rid of a huge brass bedstead , it went to a dealer for free but I didn't care as the council wanted £40 to collect it and recycle it.

Just listing some more items on facebook selling pages and notice that one of the sites I list on now has 13000+ users. At this rate of growth a single page may well overtake ebid as a place to sell online!

Unfortunately not having a great deal of luck recently, stuff is going very slowly and I still get people really mucking me about. I've got one woman who has failed to collect 4 times now and has just responded on one of my posts asking me to hold an item for her and pm her my address- not blooming likely.
