Hi, nearlyrich is right - you can just use the "Prt Scrn" key, usually on the right of F12 on a standard keyboard. This'll take a screen shot of the whole screen and save it to the clipboard so it can be pasted into Word or whatever.
If that's not enough for your needs then you might be interested in the following software:

If you have multiple windows open when you press Prt SC it copies the whole screen as seen. To get a print of just the active window press the left hand ALT key and Prt SC at the same timeComping 2008 wins £4842 2009 wins £950.50 2010 Wins £140 2011 £00

It does sound like what you need isn't a screenshot but something like Wink which dudleyboy gave a link to, computer tutorial software that captures the actions you are doing onscreen and also allows annotation."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If you are using Windows Vista then there is a useful little tool called 'Snipping tool', which allows you to select an area on screen which you can then save as an image. Once you have 'snipped' your image, you can use a highlighter or pen tool to write on the image.0

btw on laptops its usually fn and prtscrn as opposed to alt/ctrlFr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0
