20th September is a good day for a wedding:j0

Hey,
Have you had any news back yet? x0 -
sorry for the delay. yes I have spoke with the new owner again since I've last been on here.
basically I asked him straight how many wedding events have already left and he told me they had 14 and now only two one being in start of aug (when the new owners take over) and ours on 20th September. I then went on to ask him if we leave will they then be planning to start work straight away on the building and he replied yes exactly.
I told him we have looked around at other venues but are all too expensive being only 3 months to our wedding day there is no deals to be had, he told me they know as the people who have left to go else where have had the same trouble so the £2000 compensation the offered they have given them more to help them move. if you find somewhere else and its £500-£700 more then let us know as we should be able to help.
so now its gone from 2000 to maybe 2700 :S anyway I phoned our Hilton wedding adviser up the other day as the way I see it she has a unbiased view being there's only two wedding events left and at the end she is being let go. I asked her if she personally thinks it will all stay the same and she said everything that was in our contract will remain the same however it wont be as nice on the day being that the new company taking over is limited and they are not used to events and have no interest in them, she said if we are interested in finding a new venue then work out the difference and add on a bit then tell them.
I was doing as little research today and found out that Hilton knew last year they was selling up yet we have only just been told 3 weeks ago and told us that they didn't know themselves although ive just found a website that has a 3rd October 2013 date on the page. would I be pushing it to try and get some compensation from Hilton too being they have known for months and only tell us 3 months to go?
we have found a nice venue same distance from us but more money and its the only place we can find without being miles and miles away which the 2000 dose not cover the cost as well as a small fee for people like wedding cake people to go further and flowers and letters or new invitations to be sent out to tell everyone the change of place,
its all getting very stressful just when we think we will stay the new owner tells us more information that again doubted our views, sorry for the long response!!!0 -
she will most likely be bitter at being let go so I wouldn't pay too much heed at her words.I phoned our Hilton wedding adviser up the other day as the way I see it she has a unbiased view being there's only two wedding events left and at the end she is being let go.
however if you're doubtful then you need to change venue.
find out cost of everything that you'll need to change, write back to the manager (shout if you want another letter drafted).
Tell him that you have looked into moving venue at it will be £XXX, broken down as follows:
invites
cake delivery
etc etc etc
Make sure you say this is on top of the £2k compensation.
the response they sent to your initial letter was sounding very positive, it may be that you need to go and see them and see how you feel face to face. find out how many of the old staff will be there still. do a new menu tasting etc etc.
bottom line is: what do you both want to do deep down?
if you want to stay then meet with them and i'll do you a bullet point list of things to check with them.
provisionally book the other venue if you can do so with a refundable deposit. just in case.0 -
Have you checked the submarine museum?0

Even if I had to change the date I'd change venue . There is more to a catered event than providing what is in the contract. The hotel will have sacked all their function staff by then so any staff will either be from other depts or hired from an agency. They won't care about doing a good job the way permanent staff do.
As it is now fairly short notice now I'd be looking for a good deal from a new venue. I wouldn't tell them I'd been let down........ I'd be saying I want to get married on X date IF I can get the right deal . You are far more likely to get a better price or extras thrown in if they don't know you currently have a gun held to your head.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
We was originally going to go with submarine museum but was slot more money at the time. Now we are having to look again with 3 months to go our choices of places are next to none being the date of our wedding ie submarine museum no longer avaliable on that weekend. There is one venue within our distance that is a possibility but nearly double what the compassion offers without the added costs of other people's small costs to be added. We spoke to this venue and can't offer is anything other than there package prices. We're very doubtful the hilton will offer us double what they initially offered even if it ment they could stay building work early.
Ok to be fair we could find a workman's club of something similar but I don't see that we should suffer downgrading as such. Thank you ask for your input.0
