How's that for a new strap line?0 -

Hi guys,
I've read various posts on here that are anti-DFS so I don't want any warnings telling me to stay away from them.
Here's my story anyway. My partner and I are moving in to our first house together and have been shopping around for furniture (DFS to be exact). We're about 4 months off the moving date so didn't go for one there and then. After running a credit check ourselves on those Experian type sites, it seems we both have inadequate rating so we're sure we'd be declined if we went in DFS. My question is, without paying full whack, are we still able to purchase the sofa? Can we pay a deposit then continue paying the payments?
We can easily afford the payments, the issues on out credit scores are from years ago. We just don't want to use our savings on a sofa when we've seen one we like half price in the sale and would leave us with some savings to then spend on other furniture and decorating etc. So if we placed a 10-15% deposit would they allow us to pay the sofa off. (The current deal is 4 years interest free)
I have seen the posts about signing an agreement and then being declined and then being responsible for the full amount. I'm aware of this and obviously won't be applying if it's not possible to do it the way I've said above.
Thanks

How is signing up for 4 years more debt going to help you achieve your goal?
There are plenty of fully furnished rental properties on the market, especially in student areas. Even if you have elected for a non-furnished property, there's no need to splash out on brand new furniture that you can't afford - plenty of cheap second hand stuff available. You might even strike lucky and pick a really good suite up for free on places like freecycle, because the lady of the house has decided it no will no longer match the new curtains she has decided to buy.
If you do get turned down for credit by DFS (or whoever provides it for them), then that mortgage eligibility might need to be re-looked at too0 -
Hi
Thanks for your post here at DFS we use several different companies for the credit option, what will happen when you apply for finance we pass your application to the finance company if that declines we would then pass it to a second lender if that then comes back as decline there is the option of placing the finance in a close friend or family members name. But please be aware that this is not as a guarantor so if you we’re to miss any payments they would be liable for them. Finance orders are subject to acceptance so until we have that back the order isn’t processed so if you were to be declined the order would be cancelled unless you were to tell us otherwise ie you were going to pay cash or transfer the finance into some else’s name.
I hope I’ve answered all of your questions if not please give us a call were I will be more than happy to help

How's that for a new strap line?
I have a dfs sofa thats 10 this year. cloth and leather. The cloth is looking a bit tatty but still perfectly serviceable... chosen not to change for another couple of years because we have two young children and hopefully we will be past the messiest stage when we get our new sofa. The only major peeve i have is that the sofa cushions can't be turned as they are not 'proper' material on the underside.
To be fair, they are expensive largely because the finance is 'built in' to the price. My father used to sell interest free double glazing but knew full well there was a 17% finance cost to be built into his quote to cover the '0% scheme'.
I don't intend to buy anther sofa from DFS (I'm buying a full leather sofa from a local furniture shop next probably) but i can give you feedback from friends and relatives for most high street sofa sellers which show their products to be permanently on sale, poor quality and barely last a few years. Worst is probably my inlaws who bought two sofas on a two for one deal from tesco direct and within 6 months had had to put wooden boards under the sofa cushions on both sofas as the bases had effectively collapsed.0 -
I got 2 ikea sofas from a charity shop. Perfectly clean, no marks etc. £55 delivered. All that glitters is not gold.0

Other sofa shops are available. Cheaper ones too. Second hand, even better. Pay cash.0

Got 2 leather sofas, from DFS, a few years ago, interest free credit, and sofas looking as good as new.:T
Delivered swiftly, efficiency all round and comfortable sofas.
No complaints here!
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
I just wanted to say I've had my leather sofa from dfs 13yrs now and apart from where I sit it's still going strong! But I am looking to get a new one now as I'm bored with this now and the cushion has gone where I sit, yes I could get it re-done I suppose but it's time for a change, my ex and I did pay a lot for the sofas when we bought them but I've definitely had my money's worth and would buy again from dfs!!0
