Can I get a DFS sofa if I'm declined

Hi guys,
I've read various posts on here that are anti-DFS so I don't want any warnings telling me to stay away from them.
Here's my story anyway. My partner and I are moving in to our first house together and have been shopping around for furniture (DFS to be exact). We're about 4 months off the moving date so didn't go for one there and then. After running a credit check ourselves on those Experian type sites, it seems we both have inadequate rating so we're sure we'd be declined if we went in DFS. My question is, without paying full whack, are we still able to purchase the sofa? Can we pay a deposit then continue paying the payments?
We can easily afford the payments, the issues on out credit scores are from years ago. We just don't want to use our savings on a sofa when we've seen one we like half price in the sale and would leave us with some savings to then spend on other furniture and decorating etc. So if we placed a 10-15% deposit would they allow us to pay the sofa off. (The current deal is 4 years interest free)
I have seen the posts about signing an agreement and then being declined and then being responsible for the full amount. I'm aware of this and obviously won't be applying if it's not possible to do it the way I've said above.
Thanks

As you don't want any advice about not going there I won't comment on that.
The only way to find out is to try - make an application and see.
How far back on your credit reports is the bad stuff?
If over 6 years they might have dropped off altogether.0 -
DFS doesn't give you the credit. External companies do.
I used to work for one of them who used to have the DFS account. You'd need to have some pretty serious and recent credit issues to get declined.0 -
If you are declined they won't expect you to pay the whole amount, the order will just be cancelled.
If you do fail the credit checks they won't allow you to pay monthly, you'll just either have to save up or try somewhere else (although a decline at DFS is likely to mean a decline at anywhere similar, and multiple credit checks in a short space of time can be damaging to your file in itself).0 -
I got a sofa 4 yrs ago from dfs and was told that if the credit check failed I was still expected to pay and the order couldn't be cancelled. I don't know if it's changed since then.0

But that's just stupid. Why would you apply for finance if you had enough money to pay for the sofas outright?
I personally applied in DFS with my partner a couple of years ago and made it clear from the outset that we could not buy the sofas unless we could get finance. We filled in all the forms, were declined on the credit check, and then left the store.0 -

How can you run a credit check on yourself?
If you mean the cradit score the reference agency give you then you wasted your time. Lenders do not use those scores.
If you fail a credit check then you either pay in full or go elsewhere, They wont let you pay on the drip if you fail to meet their criteria.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I bought a Sofa on credit from DFS last year on 3 years interest free credit and the finance is offered by Barclays Partner Finance.0 -

Fair point. But I still imagine the majority of DFS shoppers are looking for finance because they don't have the money.0 -

That was probably a blessing in disguise... if they dont think you are good to lend to... it probably made you wait or get a 2nd hand sofa which would've helped your debt free target.0
