That sounds a lovely thing to do OP and you paint a really nice picture.

I live deep in the countryside 4 miles from Minsmere, and I always sleep with the bedroom windows wide open , I get woken by the dawn chorus , and its so beautiful, the blackbirds are really singing their heads off this past month....Best sound ever....

    Got to share this.

Got up at 3.15am , dose of painkillers, made flask of tea, hot water bottle and drove to nearby woods in isolated lane.
Parked up, stayed in car but window down and waited. Tad spooky, but the flask of tea soothed things. At about 3.40am, the 1st bird call, Robin I believe. And then it built. A crescendo of beauty, the odd moo of a cow. I only know basic bird song. I saw rabbits, and foxy.

The light was unearthly. Lingering mist over fields. Absolutely wonderful!

And that M'Lud is the case for the defence :D

I live in a town although not right in the centre. However, there are lots of trees in the gardens around here and I love to listen to the birds early in the morning.

Strangely, the night before last, I could still hear the birds just as it was getting dark (around 10.15pm) and again when I got up to the loo at 3.30 when it was just getting light. I don't think they take much sleep, lol.

Weird thing again is that we have some wood pigeons building a next in one of our trees, going back and forth with twigs. Never noticed this happening before, usually associate it with earlier in the year.

Pigeons are regular breeders, and also quite thick, compared with corvids.

Here the pigeons finish building their nests, then the crows and jackdaws nick the twigs for theirs. :rotfl:

Everyone should experience it at least once. Been a while since I've been out somewhere specifically for it, but even if you're having a sleepless night and end up listening to it by accident its always a pleasure.

I'm revisiting this website and indeed this thread with the lovely responses after a long time away.

11 days after I posted this, my life changed forever when my partner of 17 years took his life. The trauma and loss has been indescribable. I did not imagine I'd ever get through it.

I'm very much alone now and taking tentative steps to finding moments of joy in life.

I'm not posting this for any sympathy, but to just connect with folks who love simple pleasures and are kind.

I'm already hearing early morning birdsong. Life continues and is bitter sweet.

Oh joyfull. How courageous for you to post. Please go and revisit the Dawn Chorus in person and repost your experiences. If i lived near , then i would gladly go with you ! Please keep posting on this forum so we know that you are ok!

Joyfull, I remember reading this thread when you started it and thought how beautifully you described your early morning.

I'm so sorry to read of the terrible experience that followed it. Thank you for checking in again, it is a brave step and I hope you will find some solace amongst other lovers of nature and its magic.

Long term dream of mine. Challenge as body is weak, long term health stuff.

But...... did some research. And today got up at 3.15am , dose of painkillers, made flask of tea, hot water bottle and drove to nearby woods in isolated lane.

Anyway, my understanding is we've only got a couple more weeks max before dawn chorus dies down. And its best on a clear morning. All offered totally free by dear mother nature.

    Anyone else enjoyed this?

Sounds like quite the experience! Your post makes me miss the country side where I used to live...
