Got up for dawn chorus....magic!

Got to share this.

Long term dream of mine. Challenge as body is weak, long term health stuff.

But...... did some research. And today got up at 3.15am , dose of painkillers, made flask of tea, hot water bottle and drove to nearby woods in isolated lane.
Parked up, stayed in car but window down and waited. Tad spooky, but the flask of tea soothed things. At about 3.40am, the 1st bird call, Robin I believe. And then it built. A crescendo of beauty, the odd moo of a cow. I only know basic bird song. I saw rabbits, and foxy.

The light was unearthly. Lingering mist over fields. Absolutely wonderful!

Anyway, my understanding is we've only got a couple more weeks max before dawn chorus dies down. And its best on a clear morning. All offered totally free by dear mother nature.

Anyone else enjoyed this?

Yes, though not all the way through from 03.15 unless my bladder's playing up!

I'm blessed with having it all outside the back door, but 05.45 is plenty early enough to let the chickens out.

We have foxes, but there's more evidence of badgers this past year. I think of early light as 'their time' rather than mine, so I don't usually go into the fields till sun-up.

Sounds very joyfull.
I listen to the birds in my garden after the sun has come out.
Birds hop across the grass when the dog is not on petrol.

Glad to hear you followed your dream.
Some brave soles watch the sun come up on New Years day.

Joyfull - so glad you did this for yourself. Though I consider myself to be a keen naturewatcher I have only ever done this once. Well worth it though!

Ah yes, I also remember those days fondly. You were on the night shift at the steelworks too, then?

I was amazed years ago when doing a stint of night work I went outside for a breath of fresh air at about 2am, the birds were singing their little heads off as if it were dawn, I realised that because of all the lighting on the industrial estate the birds never slept, the poor things had to protect their territories 24 hours a day they must have been exhausted.

OMG, the dawn chorus! We have groups of them, some kind of seabird, could be seagulls except they are a huge version of them if they are, nesting on the roof, right under where we sleep. I definitely don't need an alarm clock in the spring. They have massive loud voices, and can keep it up for a couple of hours.

oh yes I hear it almost every day at the moment as my body clock wakes me at the crack of dawn, absolutely uplifting and the best time of day. I go walk about in my dressing gown and say hello to the sheep in the orchard behind our back garden, they sleep against our fence. Skylarks too, constant and hardly seen but what singing !!
