Toilet flush getting longer...

The flush time on our toilet has been getting gradually longer but now seems to have balanced out at 2 minutes - a lot longer than the 30-40 seconds it used to take.
Any idea what would cause this to happen? It's stabilised now but 2 minutes flushing is a lot of water being used/wasted.

Anyone have any advice on this please?
The flush is now getting longer again - up to about 5 minutes now. What could be causing this? I can't get into the cistern bit as our toilet is one of those stupid designs where the toilet is enclosed behind a wooden unit (we didn't put it in!)
Thanks0 -
My toilet flush gets far too long if I have the cistern filling too fast, so I just turn the tap filling the toilet down a bit, that fixes it.0

I think you mean the refill time, not the flush time?
It's filling slower, which means that the inlet valve is restricted. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Do you mean how long it takes for the cistern to fill back up once flushed or does the water carry on running into the bowl for a few minutes after you have flushed it?0
-
Sorry, I'll try to explain as best I can.
It's a push button first of all, not a handle to pull. From the point I push the button to flush to the point where I no longer hear any water movement and where water is no longer visible in the actual bowl takes 5 minutes.
It used to take around 40 seconds.
Sadly, I can't access the cistern area as it's enclosed behind a wooden panel.
I'm hoping this won't be expensive to fix!0 -
Hope that makes sense!0

Sounds like a new flush valve to me0

Is that usually an expensive job? I'm thinking access (or lack of it) might be an extra expense0

our house had a similar problem, turned out to be the button you push! the weak spring inside was not pushing the button back up so keeping the valve open.
An easy fix just a new push button, but i think access would be an issue for you even for that. Are you sure there isn't any sort of access panel? Removable tile? Any screws you can see?0 -
To state the obvious, you can't fix this until you access the cistern. A new diaphragm is not an expensive part.No free lunch, and no free laptop
