Carphonewarehouse O2 Cancellation Woes

Hello Everyone, first of all apologies if anyone's posted a similar topic before.

I need help.

It seems as if CPW are "misplacing" peoples cancellation letters. Call me cynical but is it because they stand to gain another months line rental?

I called CPW last month and was told that I should send a confirmation letter to the cancellations address in Dunstable.

At no point was I told that I should send this letter via recorded delivery.

A month later "surprise surprise" the line is still connected and CPW state that they haven't received the cancellation letter. I've spoken to someone in cancellations and he's said that he will flag it up to the relevant department, but I have to wait a couple of days for the outcome.

However having phoned back a few days later, CPW had not even actioned the cancellation, and the customer service representative said that he would invoke the cancellation commencing now, however it would take another 28 days for the line to be terminated.

It not fair that I should incur an extra months line rental, as I have given sufficient notice both on the phone and in writing that I wish to terminate the contract after 12 months.

I told the customer service representative that there seems to be alot of mail going missing to the cancellation address, and he tried to blame Royal Mail!!!

I went on further to explain that I will not be paying the extra months line rental, he threatened me stating that the outstanding amount will be passed over to a debt collection company.

As far as i am concerned I followed the correct procedure and gave CPW 30 days notice both via phone and a letter, yet their incompetance or more accurately their "greed" means that I will be billed a for a further month.

Am I still liable for the line rental? Should I cancel my DD after the current outstanding amount is taken for the previous month.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I did the same after the second conversation.

What's the story with you Strangled? Are you liable for another month's line rental?

This is normal it seems. Their procedure for ending a contract is entirely aimed at keeping you connected for as long as possible. People beware; push them all the way for the procedure as early as possible and don;t accept the garbage. Send it recorded and phone to check. They rely on Royal Mail not doing their job properly. Complain in advance if they only give you four DAYS before the 30 days notice to call for a disconnection code.

Is there any reason why they could not be contacted at any point during the contract term and told that the contract is to end on the last day of the 12th or 18th month?

I know that it is usual to give 30 days notice. However, this is the minimum period of notice. Surely it is possible to say at the start of the contract that you want it to terminate on the lst day of the prime period?

They write the contract, not you - and you're bound by its terms.

Is this in response to my post mobilejunkie??
