moving mobile number within same network

Hi Group
Probably quite a basic question.
I wish to purchase a new mobile phone contract (as its cheaper than doing a deal with call centre) and moving my existing mobile number over to the new contract.
Will there be a problem moving my number on the same network, eg old talkmobile contract to a new talkmobile or Vodafone contract. I know going to a new network is not normally a problem if you get a PUK code.
Thanks in advance

AFAIK, O2 is the only network doing this. With all other networks you'll have to jump though hoops by porting number in two steps via another network PAYG sim.
Talkmobile to Vodafone isn't a problem as it's a different network, and, BTW, it's PAC, not PUC.
Instead of purchasing a new contract with the same network you can consider 'upgrading'. Many third parties, like CPW, do this as well as selling new contracts.0 -
You cannot do it - It is called a migration (cross network ones are possible and requires a PAC).
It can be refused on the basis the discount you get as a new customer is greater than upgrading, so to prevent users from doing an end run by effectively upgrading to the same network but at a cheaper cost, they block migration requests - the timeframe this is active varies.0
